Absolutely correct. In fact, St. Augustine said that in marriage, the head of a household SERVES those whom he only appears to "rule."
Those who can only describe marital love in terms of "controlling" and/or "ruling" don't seem to know much about what true love entails or have sadly only experienced bad marriages.
When one truly loves, nothing is good enough for the beloved. True love between a man and woman in marriage involves a free and mutual surrender of the self to the beloved. A gift of self. No other gift will do, since any other "gift" without the giver would be as barren as a desert.
At its best, marriage has always been the highest form of human love. In fact, the Catholic Church regards Marriage as a Sacrament. A Sacrament is defined by the RCC as an "outward Sign instituted by Christ to give grace." Therefore you are absolutely right in comparing a husband's love for his wife with Christ's love for the Church. Especially since the Church is referred to as the "Bride of Christ" in the Scriptures where many such nuptial allusions are to be found.
It was Christ Himself who said "Greater love has no man than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends." John 15:13
