Yes, no need to cancel, just don’t use the thing. That way the issuer can’t make much if any money off your transactions, but they still have administrative costs. (Small, but not zero.) And if one has time, complain repeatedly to their chat and phone staff. More cost.
Advise conservative friends & family to do the same.
Eventually they may terminate your card for non-use, but, what have you lost if you are not using it?
Better worded:
Without transactions, the card issuer cant make much if any money off your card, but they still have administrative costs.
they needed to KNOW why I’m not using it anymore.
Getting a straight answer on this forum anymore is dam& nigh impossible.
Constantly wading through the smart az comments and snarky cynicism has become freakin tiresome.
“Here is hoping everybody cancels their Discover cards.”
Here’s hoping that they fall on hard times and get bought up by someone who can turn the infrastructure they have into a card for freedom and free speech. Call it “Discover Freedom”.
Sorry that was intended as a straight answer not sarcasm.
We're already a cashless society. Have you noticed that there is a "change shortage" in the United States? Now you have to use exact change or forego receiving coin change when you use cash. No coins today, no one dollar bills tomorrow.
“...support from the far-right.”
Remember, there is no such thing as the “far-left.”
Just, WOW !!
Looks as if Im going to have to Discover a new credit card.
Yes, as I said:
if one has time, complain repeatedly to their chat and phone staff. More cost.
(To them.)
:-)
I sure hope Lin and Wood sue the pants off Discover.
OK... It shouldn’t be legal. But they are doing it. Doesn’t it take a lawsuit to decide?
People are rioting in Portland. Clearly illegal, according to written law. Practically, not so much.
Don’t you agree?
A person with a reasonably strong legal background should be able to comment on a or several specific statutes that would determine if their actions were likely illegal or not.
Yet they are allowing donations to bail out rioters?
OK, I see what you’re asking. You’d like a somewhat professional opinion on the odds, and a possible pointer to a statute.
But from my practical experience in business law (a couple of long legal wrangles), I can tell you that the law is only part of the story. Unless there’s very on-point case law, you don’t know if a law will stand up as written or not.
The treatment of current civic malfeasance is an obvious and ongoing example.
I understand that. I am interested in “the law”. And I thought I made that obvious when I asked if it “was legal”.
I am well aware that nothing guarantees that it will be enforced.
My suggestion, then, is that you add something like “professional opinion requested” to your post, or you are going to get more comments like mine.
Monetary donations have been legally held to BE speech.
LOL
I hate to say it but this forum possesses unfortunately nowhere near the depth of knowledge it had 15 years ago.
Snarky smart azzes......that’s a different story.
