I’m assuming France, maybe even Paris, French Revolution time frame. I see the cheering crowd waiting to see the balding gentleman in white have a surgical procedure, but I am drawn to the cylindrical object lower left and to the left of the gentleman on horse back. It appears outsized and out of place. I apologize in advance for my inability to visualize just what it is, or why it’s prominence in the painting. Are you able to help?
It is worse than that; more and more young people in this country are foreign. Their concept of “American” is shaped by TV and social media, not actual learning.
