My point is that he may not have responded appropriately to the first antagonist. He was with a group of adults with guns, and none of them thought they needed to shoot, so I’m guessing they had evaluated the situation and thought it did not require killing someone.
I don’t know if the boy was in MORE danger at that moment than any of the other people in his group. That is what an investigation will find.
But in this environment, starting with the illegal possession of a gun, no matter how stupid we think it is that a 17-yo can’t carry a gun, is going to cloud the situation.
Even if they decide that his shooting was understandable, I don’t see him NOT getting charged for underage possession and carry.
And I will say this — I will almost always come out on the side of NOT killing someone. I won’t fault people for defending themselves, but personally i put a high bar on taking a life; I don’t own a gun because I don’t think I would kill someone to save my life. (I might well kill someone to save someone else’s life, but I’m a pacifist at heart so even when I’ve intervened to break up fights, I’ve never thrown a punch in my life).
Hopefully, an unbiased investigation will take place, and the facts will become clear.
I can’t say from what I’ve read that I know enough to declare he was “right”, much less took the best action; even if he ends up getting “off”, he will have to live with taking the life of another human being — he was filmed being distraught over that right after the first shooting
(which is why I get really pissed off at the left claiming he was just there to kill someone, he clearly was NOT happy he had shot someone).
