Which is why I have zero faith in our country’s future to stay peaceful.

It was great to live through the 80’s! I remember the awful 70’s, economic malaise, everyone hated the cops and the military and always blamed America for everything, gas lines, protests, hippies. I remember by Dad yelling at Cronkite and Carter and turning the channel muttering communist scum! Then Reagan showed up and then was elected, I remember being in Knoxville Tennessee with my siblings and Mom that evening preparing to drive home after an afternoon of early Christmas shopping and listening to the returns on that old Chevy station wagon radio and them announcing Reagan had won and Mom was quite happy.

Then he took office, and the hostages came home. I remember watching the news when the Soviet ambassador showed up at the White House and tried to use the special private entrance and was turned away, my Dads response was YES! He survived the assassination attempt and whenever the Democrats and the media were in opposition to him he would make a speech, lay it out to the people in plain English and they would start the phone calls.

You knew the adults were back in charge and it was fun to be proud of the flag, military, cops and country and you could enjoy being a kid! I was a teenager when he took office and most every kid in high school liked Reagan with the exception of a few malcontents and of course teachers the commies in disguise.

When Trump leaves the scene unless there is another disrupter candidate elected the GOP will sell us out faster than a crack whore on a $20 bill laying on the street. The Democrats are scum, the GOP is worse for their cowardice and they don’t stand for ANYTHING. They are always-always going to fight the next time, no we really mean it, next time, no for sure next time...

I think there will be no peace after Trump, the GOP will cave and the Democrats are hellbent on communism. I fear a long slog of civil war in 2025 or a new dark age in the entire world. China in conjunction with the tyrants in Russia and Europe will all throw in with the new communist government of the USA and crush opposition under their boots. When freedom dies here there is no where else to go in this world. Think Rome as the barbarians come over the hill.

When Trump leaves office in 2025, they all plan to ‘prosecute’ him and us. This crap doesn’t end peacefully between now and then.

Yes but Reagan didn’t have to deal with the present lunatic Democrats. Reagan would have been hard pressed to be able to get opponents to like him. There are few if any Democrats like Mondale existing today. If Mondale was running today, he’d be looked at as too moderate in the present Democratic Party.

Reagan was pilloried constantly. AND he had a completely Dem Congress to balance, only 2 years had a Repub Senate.

While indeed Dems tried to hate on him and color him stupid and told us how everyone was homeless thanks to him, at the same time he was completely disarming with his charm. Ultimately one was thought a bit absurdly insane if accusing Reagan of evil or meanness.

And yet, he was tough as nails.

Ditto. The ‘80s were great. I got to have Reagan presiding over the country during all my middle and high-school years.

Even my Dem best friend said she was sad to see him go. She said it was so good to feel proud about America.
