A decent body camera is available on Amazon for around $50. A high-quality one goes for around $125.

And a police department could probably get even a lower price by getting a quantity discount.

But I don’t doubt that $800 quote for a second. The government routinely overpays for everything.

In the end, that doesn’t matter. It’s 2020. Any police department that is sending officers out without body cameras is negligent. It would be like sending them out without radios.

Permit me to add one more thing to my post #21. Maybe it’s not the price that is keeping some police departments from buying $50 body cameras. Maybe they don’t want anything that might contradict what their officers say.

Yes, I am that cynical.

Actually, I don’t find it suspicious. I have multiple friends and family who use our business as a package drop because of porch pirates.

I also have adult children who use our Prime account, and they all share a Netflix and Disney accounts because we dropped ours.

“No packages of interest” is more definitive than you think. It is likely to mean that all the packages she received had metered postage and barcoded tracking labels which means that they all had easily traceable and verifiable shippers. It’s not like the Postal Inspectors are noobs at this and don’t have the largest, most accurate database of names and addresses at their fingertips.

If she had been receiving packages with no return address and covered in stamps, they would have had them sniffed.

Also, the USPS photographs every package as it goes through their system for at least the last 17 years because of the Anthrax attack, and it’s now also used in their “informed delivery” system.

They also have a request form for law enforcement to view the images, warrants are unnecessary, unless you want to open it.

The article points out that sometimes, you can have a shooting like this, and NOBODY is criminally liable. It’s just an unfortunate, tragic accident.

But in this case, it is driven by the rules about no-knock warrants, and our drug craze that makes us think we need to round up drug users in midnight raids, rather than just showing up in the day, knocking on the door, and showing a warrant.

OK, except she is dead, the boyfriend was arrested, they did a complete search of the apartment. They also have every reason to find, or make up, evidence, and yet there is ZERO evidence that she ever GOT drugs illegally, or sent them anywhere.

You’d think by now that they would have her supplier from work, or have tracked down who was getting the packages. Or they would have made a deal with the drug dealer, who they actually arrested, for leniency if he “implicated” her — and yet there is no evidence he has said anything about her.

In other words, this entire thing seems to be pure speculation, based on an iffy warrant.

So, where is the testimony from the drug dealer about her involvement? Surely ANY police department by this time would have made a deal to get that testimony, you’d think they’d even LIE about it if they could.

Why would i automatically believe that part of the story?

Also, what if one of them happens to actually be a driver for amazon or the USPS, if I were a drug dealer, it would be a great cover to be an independent package delivery service worker.

Boyfriend should be charged for her murder. He started shooting at cops. It seems odd that he would respond with gunfire so quickly if they were asleep. I think he was awake and on guard. Now consider boyfriend says cops didn’t identify themselves multiple cops say they did. Who ya gonna believe ?

My friend, black drug dealers do not rat out their co-conspirators. Especially in urban America. I guess I am speaking inside baseball, because having prosecuted and defended hundreds of these cases, they all follow the same pattern. Drug dealers recruit women to avoid detection. The Mexican cartel ships the drugs from California or Arizona, the sender is anonymous, and the recipient claims 100% of the time that they are Sergeant Schultz, “I know nothing.“ I read the warrant. This was a large scale drug operation in Louisville Kentucky The drug dealers were essentially running a drive-through restaurant for drugs. And they were making trips to Ms. Taylor’s apartment to re-up their drug supply. By the way, I would not be surprised if the cops had far more probable cause that could’ve been put into the warrant. Most urban cops are super busy and typically put just enough in the warrant to get a judge to sign off on it. If the Judge refuses to sign the warrant, the police will just resubmit a lengthier affidavit to the Judge. In my experience, search warrants taken out by suburban and rural police tend to be substantially longer and more detailed.

Google body camera, and you can see a variety on sale from $50 up to a few hundred, depending on resolution, capacity, and other features.
