This is exactly why I never give a dime to the GOP. They are all cheese-eating surrender monkeys, quitting before ever beginning to fight. A POX on all of those bastards except for a very few like Nunes, Meadows [too bad he had to leave the house for his new job], Stefanik, Massie, Jordan, Gohmert, Cotton, and Cruz.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), an outspoken budget hawk...

Oh barf. Johnson spends with the best of them. He voted against the covid bill because it didn't spend enough.

What a bunch of idiots?!

There are many states which celebrate holidays unique to their experiences. I remember growing up in Massachusetts that we would celebrate Patriots’ Day. The day commemorated the first shots of the Revolutionary War in 1775 and is celebrated in a few surrounding states. The highlight is that the Boston Marathon is always run on this day. But it is generally a Massachusetts thing.

Juneteenth is a Texas thing commemorating the delayed notice 1865 to the slaves held in Texas that they had been declared free by the Emancipation Proclamation two years previously. Ignoring the underlying falsehood that surrounds the holiday, it ONLY applies to the residents of Texas, should they decide to celebrate it.

There is not place in the conscience of America that should treat this as a cause for national celebration. The fact that we no longer celebrate the birthday of the man who caused the events leading up to Juneteenth should be reason enough not to memorialize the day.

Sheesh!

just another worthless holiday regardless. Only useless people get such holidays off. Government workers, bankers, etc.

Some might take exception to that comment since teachers fall within that group. Face it, if the teachers were worth a shit in this country we wouldn’t have so many idiots and insane people trying to tear the country down. Teachers, at this point, are well within the useless group.

But then, so are a lot of parents who have raised such kids.

I pray every day that my children aren’t idiots once they grow past childhood.

Why not? Christopher Columbus, a fascinating and important historical figure, was a douchebag. He never set foot on territory that would become the U.S.

It makes a lot more sense to celebrate the Republicans taking away the democrats’ slaves. Plus I’d rather have another summer holiday vs one in the autumn.

Worthless clowns. They should be taking Chick Fil A’s advice and just start polishing the shoes of the marxists.

After Juneteenth, slavery was still legal in the “border states” of Delaware, Maryland, Kentucky, Missouri, and parts of Louisiana that had been exempted from the Emancipation Proclamation. Since the Emancipation Proclamation was based on an executive order, Andrew Johnson could have repealed it with the stroke of a pen. The date that should be celebrated is six months later when the Thirteenth Amendment was finally ratified - December 6th. 1865.

I’m fine with ditching columbus day, it’s just unfortunate that Juneteenth is so close to 4th of July. A day off in August would have been much better.
