While Pence and the president have tried to paint a rosier picture of the virus and project a return to normalcy, some members of the task force are eager to resume appearances from White House grounds and speak directly to the American people, per two people involved in the task force meetings.
I used to care what they think, but no more. They helped get us into this mess.

i looked all over and i can’t find the NBC story headlined:
“Top members of Coronavirus task force including Fauci and Birx, advised against protests”
Of course they did. Does not matter if you are in a crowd of 100 protesters or 1000 rally goers. You only have to be exposed to one contagious person to be at risk of getting the virus. If sick people stay home and people considered high risk stay home or take precautions that risk is mitigated a good deal.
How did they feel about riots?
Would I go? Probably not but I defend other people’s right to peaceable gather.
