Its ironic that NY now makes the day the Emancipation Proclamation was read in Texas a holiday.
Do New York taxpayers get a vote on whether they have to fund an additional holiday for state government workers?
Only took 150 years.
State of Texas celebrates Confederate Hero’s Day on Robert E Lee’s birthday.
ok...what the hell is Juneteenth?
Good for them. Why not just declare every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday holidays as well.
So New York has so much money they can give another paid day off. Good to know, now we do not need to give them any money.
June Teeth is an authentic black holiday—not a construct. They started to celibate in 1865 and white Texans let them
Even in the most racist of times. It has withstood the test of time—I say make it a national Holiday.
There’s already a whole month for bashing Whitey. What next in the hysterical, insane USA of 2020?
“...Nobody in the prisons were furloughed.”
Not exactly true. The only civilian activity that was not cut was medical, maintenance and food service. Of course COs were not affected, naturally. All teachers, vocational instructors, most counselors, SORCS, ORCS, clergy, and at least half the clerical staff, and most corecraft people were gone. With pay. While those of us left had to show up for work each day and use our vacation or sick time if we missed any time. The Hill felt like a ghost town for about three months.
Not surprised. They are trying to get voluntary reductions before they have to start layoffs. Cuts are coming, we all know it.
Perfect timing regarding the end of the school year /s
NYS school teachers & parents will complain.
Where do you work? I started at Auburn in 1980, and moved back to the Utica/Rome area 3 years later when they took over Marcy Psychiatric Center and turned it into Mid-State C.F. Then I transferred across the street to the cookie cutter prison Marcy C.F. in '88. Made Sergeant there in '89. Transferred back over to Mid-State around '91 Got back into Tier I in 2000 when Carl McCall's legislation was passed, and retired in 2003 with about 33 years in.
This can be done by EO? I would not have guessed that.
It should remain a Texas thing.
SRV was always playing at a Juneteenth gig.
Just what a state needs. Another paid holiday to pin on the taxpayers.
There is no such thing as a Juneteenth.
On the surface I have no issues with a holiday marking the end of slavery, should have done it a long time ago, actually makes more sense than MLK Day.
