“As Luther faced criminal and civil contempt-of-court charges”
She wasn’t jailed for not keeping her salon closed (although that is why she landed in court). She was jailed for not kowtowing to the judge and admitting guilt. Thus the judge hit her with with contempt of court.
IMO this is even worse than jailing her for not shutting down her salon.

I saw that, too. He was very disrespectful and dismissive of her. He kept messing with some papers he had on his desk and would not look at her or pay attention to her statement. Horrible judicial temprememt!
