During the “Anthrax” thing I worked with an 0-6 who got Zpaks for all her family. Now is the time to but potassium iodine, because you won't be able to get it the next time a nuclear plant melts down. I've got a bottle next to with my geiger counter.

Potassium Iodide is precious as Dirt. Zpaks cost about $100 a pop.

Well, is it not common sense to insure first responders have treatment first?

It's like the instructions they give you on an airplane for oxygen mask use. If you have an infant in your care, put your own oxygen mask on first. Because if you pass out, neither you nor the infant is going to get oxygen.

Doctors and nurses can’t take care of other people if they don’t take care of themselves first.

Actually, if they’re taking reasonable amounts for themselves, I don’t see a problem with it. If they’re stockpiling excessive amounts for hoarding or to sell, that’s something else.

If there is no proof the drugs are effective according to these critics , then what is it to them if others hoard it ?

there is no "scientific proof" that any other pharmaceutical combats the contagion

Totally agree. Just like there's no proof that a ventilator will cure somebody. But they're still using them.

I think this falls under Trumps EO yesterday about hoarding needed items. DOJ needs to visit them.

How sad the media will be if these drugs definitely work.

Potassium Iodide is precious as Dirt.

Usually. So is toilet paper, usually.

I’m pretty sure that’s how they’re doing it with masks, so far. Do the health care workers first, then their contacts, and then widening circles with the general populace. They drop dead, lots of us could also drop dead.

‘You have to realize the problem is there is no “science”’

I mentioned “Science” just because it’s a word used as a club to silence critics. I haven’t seen definitive tests verifying its curative effects either, but leadership rarely has that luxury in decision making. If they always insisted on it, they would be paralyzed.

The question is whether it’s good judgment to try this drug combination on a larger population, right now, rather than waiting. Consider the consequences of doing so, versus not. Available science enters into that decision making, but ultimately it boils down to a subjective benefit/risk analysis. I imagine that was the basis for the evolving calls for limiting the size of gatherings, social distancing, N95 masks, etc. The science isn’t definitive there, either, but it’s quite plausible, so they went ahead and recommended it anyway.

Presumably, the result of such considerations is what they’re doing in New York. The science can come from examining those results, or others. Then we’ll be in a better position to make decisions next time.

Fauci needs to get off his ass, stop negging the president and promote a roll out plan which establishes priorities:
1) Test positive, you get hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine with or withoutazithromycin, whatever works best.
2) Prophylaxis for healthcare workers actively treating patients.
3) Prophylaxis for high risk people

We have plenty right now for 1). As we ramp up production we can start using chloroquine prophylaxis for 2) & 3).

1) is first because it can help keep people out of hospitals and it shortens the infection time.

If everyone knows that 1) is happening, there’s no reason to hoard or drink fish tank chemicals.

There’s fake news, and then there is preposterous imagination.

Hydroxychloroquine is in widespread use and production has been ramped up.

Enough doctors to hoard a significant portion of it do not exist.

You need to watch these briefings and stop calling for stupid things to happen when things are already happening.

Every sentence in the excerpt is rife with problems. The Post is being its often sensationalist self. This is not helpful.
