I asked the same question you asked. I think Post #12 above gives us an indicator.
Lends some credence to the original thought that this was an engineered bio-weapon that got out by accident. Rainbow 6 come to life.
It may turn out to be like HIV - your immune system can knock it back for a while, but you need to take anti-viral drugs forever to keep it at bay.
Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.
Oh Noes, we’re doomed!
Good grief this hysteria is fu*king getting old! Tomorrow it will be something new for the hand wringers to lose their minds over!
More people are still dying from Influenza A & B! Please save your breath trying to tell me how less than 3,000 people drying from COVID-19 is worse than 25,000 dying from Influenza!
I asked the same question you asked. I think Post #12 above gives us an indicator.
“Like gum or dog shit on your shoe. Hard to get rid of completely.”
Only way to get rid of it is to wipe it on someone’s carpet when nobody is looking.
Or in this case, cough directly into the salad bar when nobody is looking.
:)
That works too, but I’ll let someone cough dog $hit on the salad bar.
*someone else
Meh.
Reliable news source from China?!?
RE: Reliable news source from China?!?
This news source ( The Epoch Times ) is sponsored by the anti-Chicom religious group — Falun Gong.
Every pandemic in history started with a single infected person, just like every giant company started in someone’s garage or on their kitchen table. You CANNOT judge potential (for harm or good) from just looking at a photograph of the present state of anything.
In this case, the disease is more communicable than the flu, and has a mortality rate of 10 - 30 times as high. No, it hasn’t yet infected 500 million or more people, but with easy communicability, up to 2 weeks of being infected without showing symptoms and commerical jet travel to nearly every point on Earth within a single day, we COULD have a very big problem. Not “we WILL” have a very big problem, but we could. The fact that the ultra-cautious CDC is now saying that it is a problem that could disrupt our lives to a significant extent is NOT GOOD.
People who are running around with their hair on fire about this disease are wrong - both factually and in their approach to mitigating the effects of the disease. But so are people like you who are dismissively saying that this disease is a big nothing because AT PRESENT it has only affected a few thousand people.
Yeah, salad bars and, for that matter, lots of restaurants, are going to start really hurting in another few weeks if this thing continues.
Sure, but a new source sponsored by the Chicoms isn’t going to be “reliable” either. Nor is any Western media that is operating in China, since they are only allowed to operate there if they agree to Chicom censorship demands.
.
Why don’t people understand the fear is the flu will mutate into something worse?
Look, if 10K-25K have died of influenza in 2020...then influenza is highly communicable!
Less than 3,000 have died from Coronavirus!
You folks keep telling us it’s more communicable than influenza, but less have died! You are essentially asking us to ignore the number of people dying from influenza in order to make Coronavirus appear more deadly! Sorry, I ain’t buying it! People are also recovering from Coronavirus! A fact that many like to ignore!
1. Of course the flu is highly communicable. No one (especially me) has said anything different.
2. If we didn’t have a flu vaccine, a LOT more people would get it, and thus a lot more people would die from it - good thing that we have a flu vaccine.
3. We do NOT have a coronavirus vaccine. We might get one in several months, a year, 3 years or never.
4. New diseases (or, more accurately, mutations of old diseases that are, effectively, new because humans haven’t had a chance to develop defenses against them) are potentially more lethal than diseases that come around in virtually the same form each year.
5. The Kung Flu is new, and no one has had much of a chance to develop defenses against it.
6. OF COURSE it isn’t 100% lethal - I doubt that ANY disease is 100% lethal, aside from aging. But it IS some 10-30 times as lethal as the flu.
7. Being new, it doesn’t have reservoirs all around the world like the flu does, ready to spring up and infect people from every corner of the world in a short time (though we might get there before long). CV is new, so it will take time to become as widespread as the flu (IF it does - it may very well NOT do that).
Again, running around with one’s hair on fire about CV is rather stupid. But so is dismissively poo-pooing the disease because it hasn’t become as lethal as the flu YET.
Let’s revisit this at the end of April and see how many have died from CV, shall we?
