So what is the message to our military when a SEAL is prosecuted and persecuted for posing in a photo of one token outcome of one victory over one enemy in that war?
What is the SEAL mission...to win the hearts of ISIS or to kill them, even when their combatants include teenagers and women? Do you think that maybe during 8 tours Eddie Gallagher saw ISIS atrocities on Americans that affected him? Does anyone even recognize that in this trial multiple eyewitnesses reported he killed an ISIS prisoner...to which another SO under immunity actually confessed.....probably a mercy killing of a prisoner with unsurvivable injury.
So Gallagher maybe stabs a corpse and claims the body in a photo as a war trophy. For this the Navy Admirals and SecNav throw his 8 tours under the bus and only after his acquittal and Trump restores his retirement rank,,,outrages them so much they go after his SEAL pin?
The most troubling aspect to me is that the Navy brass keeps using men like Eddie Gallagher to do unspeakable things against terrorist barbarians and then claims outrage when confronted with proof of the results. And continue to humiliate and bust this guy for exposing the dirty things that men do in a dirty war they do nothing to actually win,
Trump gets it. God Bless the CinC.
Another great ob-ed by Col Schlichter
(The short version, from memory.) He selected the Emperor's favorite concubines as squad leaders and he began the training. The first time they failed to perform the moves he blamed the Emperor for selecting a faulty General. The second time they failed to perform he blamed himself for failure to train, and he had the squad leaders beheaded. The third time he gave the commands they responded perfectly and in unison.
Obungler let a U.S. Marine rot in a Mexican jail because of bogus charges. Finally Americans made enough noise and the Mexicans released the Marine.
“Perfumed princes” - Hack (R.I.P.)
Those in the command structure ought to be smart and loyal enough not to commit the same insubordination they would hang their underlings for....
Id fire the MCPON too who seems to be quiet as a church mouse as one of his chiefs is getting screwed.
Problem is, promoting a replacement for the fired general requires Senate confirmation, and we still have hundreds of Executive branch appointments awaiting confirmation.
The lessons were:(as I remember them)
1. Make sure your orders are communicated clearly.
2. Make examples of the leaders who do not follow the communicated orders.
3. Promote new leaders from within the group.
4. Give clear orders to the new leaders.
As I recall, the old leaders were executed, thus the new leaders knew their future if they did not enforce the orders.
When the battle is a must win, which all battles are if they are worth fighting, the the warriors must see the battle as win or die. They will fight harder under these circumstances.
Obama did the most damage in 2008 when he changed the rules of engagement creating a feeling of helplessness in the military.
How quickly people forget what happened when Obama changed the rules of engagement in 2008:
The overall suicide rate for the Army began inexpli- cably increasing at an astonishing rate, increasing from a low of 9.6/100,000 in 2004 to 19.6/100,000 in 2008, peaking in 2012 at 29.2/100,000, triple the 2004 rate
In the 18th Century they did things right. The Admiral in question as the senior officer present had to arrange for his own execution.
I left out a lot. Your memory is better than mine.
Rear Admiral Collin Green needs to be brought before the mast and if I were Trump I’d be looking for a replacement for Esper.
By protecting the enlisted man, Mr. Trump is garnering support from the rank and file of the armed forces. The perfumed princes will not be able to muster forces loyal to them, should they feel inclined to get serious about a coup.
IIRC, Obama set up Rules Of Engagement that were impossible for any military to follow. Obama made a mockery of our men in service.
Hmmm. Very interesting. I hadnt quite thought of it from that standpoint. I guess in a coup attempt, it would be the enlisted men who would do all the heavy work, so if Trump can protect the enlisted people, and show them that he honestly cares for them, they will be less inclined to follow the perfumed princes, as you describe, if they get to big for their britches.
Bingo. Hubby is a retired 20 yr career Navy E1 to E8 SCPO our good friend is 20 yr retired CPO.
The Townhall piece lays it out very well. None of their Retiree group were happy with the Statutory SecNav. He serves at the President pleasure, subject to immediate firing. Many got canned during Nam for losing.
