“What if they refuse to pay more too?”

They won’t.

Or, they MAY decide to build their own capabilities which are substantial. And we gradually wind down.

The stakes for them are not being absorbed into the borg...but existential. Everyone else in Asia hates the Japanese.

Like the world hates the US and Israel.

They will pay until/unless they replace.

Just raise tariffs on Korean imports to 20% and walk away.

It’s not that simple, there are equipment costs, and much more.

If you put a 'cruit on the ground, straight out of basic training, you're already in the hole for 7 figures. Then there are all the 6 figure contractors feeding and supporting him. Then there's full medical, dental etc. for the troop and his entire family. This is all before equipment/weapons/improvement costs.

175k per soldier is a fkn joke.

Not endless wars. We could crush the cartels in less than a year.

How long will the occupation have to go on?

If they won't pay then why would the wind down be gradual? I would think it'd be pretty immediate.

They will pay until/unless they replace.

If the U.S. shows itself to be an unreliable ally, and bought allies are by definition unreliable, then they have no choice but to look elsewhere.

That would require a big cultural change among Mexico’s elites, who have defied overwhelming popular support for the death penalty. Or direct American rule.

No occupation. Go in with lethal force. Kill them all. Seize all their assets. The criminal money buying government will dry up, and power returned to the people.

“And if they do?”

The US should abandon every nation that refuses to carry a fair burden.

Saved monies should be invested in Fortress America.

in the end, the only true negotiating power you have is the ability to walk away.

You really think Mexico is going to sit back while we invade? And what if all those people displaced by the invasion head north?

Or since we don't have to worry about defending any foreign countries we can downsize our military. We can protect Fortress America with a lot less than what we have I should think. Saved money can reduce the deficit.

That's why we have the wall. The few families that run Mexico will quickly fold. Some of the army and police will think about supporting the cartels, but they will quickly fold as well.

But most Mexicans will support an invasion

Eventually the world will come for our sh!t. We have to ensure they know it’s a suicide mission, and we’ll survive.

>>>It does seem like a lot. $5B/28,500 = $175,000 per soldier.

Could the former Blackwater or G4S provide mercenaries cheaper than the US governement.

But the hard part is getting them to agree to our troops’ actions before it happens.
I think they would if Mexico had a reasonable amount of control of our actions, and got 80% of funds we recovered.
Also, the cost of our forces would have to be paid by us (and the 20% of finds recovered).

Mexico is mighty crooked though. It would be a tough sell.

That is the problem. That is why we need the Wall, and to intervene with the military. Without asking permission
