Not true, and we need to quit accepting such myths.

Yes, our national consumption of oil is less dependent on imported oil because of how much we now produce domestically.

But our total consumption-appetite for oil products is so high, we still import a lot of oil.

For 2018 the U.S. imported just under 10 million barrels of oil a day. 2019 is not drastically different. That import level is about 50% of U.S. consumption. Far from making us “energy independent”; more energy secure, yes, but not energy independent.

That area has been fought over long before Islam. Europeans have certainly ventured there on multiple occasions, from Alexander’s time all the way to the 20th century. At the root of the current ructions is a combo of the American insistence on decolonization immediately after WWII (when European economies were on their knees) and the Soviet attempt to establish Russian control over the region via satellite communist parties along the lines of Eastern Europe. With American backing, Britain and France could have retained control over the region, while slaughtering as many rebels as necessary. Eisenhower’s brain-dead insistence on decolonization led to the dismantlement of the European empires and the associated military establishments that kept order around the world at zero cost to the US Treasury. We are still paying for his short-sighted stupidity today. The moment Pax Americana comes to an end, and we withdraw, prepare to see zooming commodities prices, as history resumes and non-Western leaders (including Putin) resume the sport of kings as practiced by Alexader - armed conquest for personal glory and eternal fame.

Your post is totally in error. It is just plain damn wrong. The USA is a net exporter of oil today. It is not a lot but grows day by day.

Yes, you do!! There are no false flag attacks here. There are reports out now saying this came from either Iran directly or Shiites in Iraq who are loyal to Iran. Whether it's from these sources or Houthi rebels it all comes down to one thing. It's coming from the mullahs in Iran. They are feeling the squeeze of this embargo and want to destabilize the worlds oil market. They are the state actors who are our true enemy.

Since we are oil independent there is no National interest there. Maybe China and Japan can handle this one.

Pompey said the evidence (I'm sure this is CIA analysis along with our allies in the region) is pointing to coming from Iran and/or Shiite militias in Iraq. Even if we take the Houthi's word for it, it all points back to Iran. The Houthis and the Shiite militias are just proxies for Iran, same as Hezbollah in Lebanon. This is how they operate, plausible deniability.
