I think another poster has already elucidated the difference between a "hospital birth certificate" and a "state-issued birth certificate". What I have is a "state issued birth certificate", which is notarised (embossed seal). I believe those will be accepted without problem by both Real ID and the VA. My wife (born 1948) got a Washington State "Real ID" drivers license using her "state issued birth certificate" without problem. I didn't get one, because I don't fly, and Washington didn't require them for all drivers licenses...although I think they do now.
It can be hard to get a “valid” birth certificate.
Look at all the trouble Obama had.

Pass a background check to show you’re not a felon or crazy.
Use that ID for gun purchase, national Constitutional Carry and voting.
I hope President Trump is proactive on this. Offering true solutions to impede these Mass shooters. Simply offer able-bodied American citizens who can pass a background check and participate in up to 80 hours of training a special status as a federal agent. A non-paying position which lacks the powers to arrest. The only duty would be to be in position to respond in the event of mass shootings. Special Agent firearms training and the US homeland security Dept providing weapons to these qualified individuals in high-crime areas such as Chicago Washington DC Los Angeles. I could see the liberal heads exploding everywhere when the President’s solution to reducing crime would be putting more armed citizens with concealed carry Authority in these ridiculous gun safe zones.

There are roughly 20,000 federal, local and state gun laws.
Criminals by definition don’t obey laws.
More people are killed by blunt force objects each year than your guns, to include AR 15 and AK 47s.
I suggest blunt objects we should legislate and control.

Baloney, My Birth Certificate was issued in the mid 1950’s and has never been rejected as appropriate proof of who I am, where and when I was born and my right to a Passport or anything else
Try using it at the VA or getting a real ID.

Not in Wisconsin in the past 10 years - old BCs are not accepted. You must get a state of birth Cert BC.
