I’m of the opinion every human was born this way.
It’s the survival instinct coded into our DNA and there’s nothing to overcome it.
When Native Americans saw white people they were afraid.
When white people saw Native Americans they were afraid.
Fear morphs to animus. And that animus has maintained successful and insular cultures, aligned usually by race.
And that’s been repeated thousands of times throughout human history.
