In 1946, the United States developed a geopolitical interest in Greenland and offered to buy the island from Denmark for $100 million IN GOLD.   ; President Harry Truman actually made the offer. However, Denmark refused to sell it.

That’s one thing about Greenland.Your not going to have a lot of neighbors.

I served there back in the 1970’s at Thule.The Winters were hell and it was dark 24 hours a day until you would start seeing twilight in early February

By the time May comes around it’s daylight 24 hours a day.
