Too many posts which diminish how America’s love to buy trillions of dollars in Chinese products, funding all of this. Trillions of dollars enables a country to develop the quality and quantity of weapons which China is doing. It enables them to steal technology also, since they can afford it and their agents can move here and live among us with these funds.

Real USAians should know that buying Chinese:

- is stealing from their neighbor, who has no job because of it
- transferring USAs wealth to China
- funding their enemies, China is a communist tyranny

I didn’t say celebrated by other grunts, I meant officially on the top level. Just the fact they are NOT rejected is bad enough. I’m sure they’ll also have gay month soirées complete with rainbow f(l)ags.

Not sure where you are getting your info but any missile with a range of 80 miles, nautical or otherwise would be pretty useless.

Depending on configuration here are specifics.

Block II TLAM-A – 1,350 nmi (1,550 mi; 2,500 km)
Block III TLAM-C, Block IV TLAM-E – 900 nmi (1,000 mi; 1,700 km)

Block III TLAM-D – 700 nmi (810 mi; 1,300 km)[3]

So, 2000 min bit of a stretch but close enough.

Ok let's assume a 550 mph cruse speed fired at 1,550 (wiki).

The time of flight is 1550/550 = 2.8 hours. So I ask, who is targeting the DD for the firing platform? The counter detection ranger is unknown, but I suspect the ship would be able to counter this missile.

Also in 2.8 hrs the DD moving at 25 kts will be over 60 nm from the position where the missile was originally launched.

Harpoon missiles are not useless and have a max range of about 80nm.

Not comparing directly. We have carriers and subs all nuclear powered. Our fleet as a whole outruns them.

< shrug >

It uses the same type powerplant and the same type fuel as our DDGs. If you want to talk nuclear vs hydrocarbon, compare their carrier to ours, their subs to ours. Your point then starts to make sense.

Point is this article makes it sound like this ONE little destroyer is going to threaten and challenge us all. We have too much of too many capabilities to be worried about this one, even if it actually is high quality, which I doubt. So do several navies.

I’m sure there’s a Mk48 just waiting for this ship ...

One Mk48 from a Los Angeles class attack boat would not make for a pleasant day on the Type 055.

Better idea?

Let’s assume the missile or better yet a torpedo is launched from one of our stealth subs from a distance of about 1000 yds.

You may think the Chinese are right on our tail technology but they aren’t within 15 yrs of us at this point and we are not standing pat. Just about everything the Chinese have they stole from us and others and it remains to be seen what if anything they can accomplish on their own. I’m thinking not so much and not near what we can.

Harpoon are old tech and probably useless against any modern navy with an up to date missile defence system.
