Just read Kurt Schlichter’s novels - DeGoofio is one of the presidents of the “Peoples’ Republic” (currently known as the blue states). Fauxcahontas was another.

Kurt over-Schlichters himself. The narrative
descends from hyperbole to bombast. His
columns are great. but reading anything
longer, you start to feel bludgeoned.

His columns are great. but reading anything longer, you start to feel bludgeoned. He's getting better. The last one (Wildfire) was better written than the first 2. I've always wanted to write fiction, but it's way harder than I ever imagined.

Progressive writing is fun. You write some stuff, then it goes to the next person who has to keep some continuity as they add their piece to it. Then back to the first writer or on to another. The stories get awesome and complex.
