Einstein predicted the deflection of starlight during an eclipse based on a model. Measurements made during a 1919 eclipse validated his model, which was based on the 1916 version of his theory of relativity, which has been spectacularly confirmed by observation ever since. (Except for that business about the cosmological constant.) If the measurements were taken during an eclipse in 1914, his theory at that time, would have predicted only half as much bending, but would still have been provocative but incomplete.

I would call the current global warming models woefully incomplete. The problem is that incentives other than pursuit of fundamental understanding have infected the entire enterprise.

New research published in Science by Hebrew University of Jerusalem Professor Daniel Rosenfeld shows that the degree to which aerosols cool the earth has been grossly underestimated, necessitating a recalculation of climate change models to more accurately predict the pace of global warming.

Not only that, recent results from prof. Henrik Svensmark has demonstrated that the climate is indeed modulated in large part by cloud cover, which in turn is modulated by solar activity in combination with cosmic rays.
