Easy. Their jobs aren't next to the voting location.
Lots of workers aren't near home during the week. A few
examples would be Pilots, cross country truckers, temp
jobs out of area, construction workers, etc.
Mobile society and mobile workers aren't a rarity.
I believe they have to let you go for up to 4 consecutive hours, but they don’t have to pay you.
Also, I have had employers that frowned on any staff taking any time off for any reason, and one was known to release folks for taking time off for reasons *he* didn’t approve of.
He was a JW btw, and they don’t see voting the same way we do.
Law or not, he got away with it.
