You miss the obvious point. Certain ideas and phrases and words have been deemed politically incorrect by the left and that has been accepted by large segments of Western populations. Pretending otherwise is stupid and hazardous to many in some positions in society.

People need to be aware and pick their battles carefully. And Aunt Jemima has already been redrawn and given a new look because of complaints from the PC brigades.

She might mean pancake excellence to you, but to others she’s an Un-PC stereotype and the female equivalent of Uncle Tom.

She should send her resume to “The View”.

The Aunt Jemima controversy has an even longer history than I realized. And she has been viewed as a negative stereotype going back before the civil rights movement. There are many links one can find on the net.

Aunt Jemima Wiki entry

I think some members of minority groups are leaving the victim politics behind, and then some of them are working to maintain and enhance their victim status more than ever. It will be a heated political and social issue for more years to come.

The recent Megyn Kelly story and the reality that it is now practically illegal to criticize Islam and Mohammed in the EU tell us that victim politics is still alive and well and growing in some areas. For years, Moslems have been working worldwide to make criticism of Islam illegal and they are having some successes.

President Trump is taking more swings are PCness than any public figure yet and he is having some successes and emboldening many other Americans. But the battle over PCness will be with us for many more years.

The bad thing is, if you read what she said, she did NOT approve of blackface. She said it was wrong. Then she said they used it at halloween when she was a kid. Then she later said that someone dressing up as, I think she said Diana Ross, was maybe ok.

None of that says, “blackface is ok.”

I wonder why she didn’t say that but instead tearfully apologized?

One of the heroes of "Gone with the Wind" was Mammy (Hattie McDaniel, who won an Academy Award for the role). She showed some of the stereotypes in language and dress, but also displayed amazing strength, humanity and courage. Portraying her at Halloween would be a tribute to a great American film character.

And probably get your ass kicked.

"...I wonder why she didn’t say that but instead tearfully apologized?

She must have thought the crawling apology would work better instead of serving as an admission that the blackface comment was a serious step over the line. She made the mistake they could use to get rid of her. She is so bad to them they will pay her to get the hell out.

And all she had to do was provide a semblance of being unbiased, but she couldn’t do even that.

As obnoxious as Kelly is, she did pin Donna Brazille to the wall about sharing debate questions with CNN and made her end up sputtering something about how Kelly was “persecuting a good Christian woman” - I’ll always love her for that.....

She was a corporate defense lawyer. Maybe she will go back to practicing law. I honestly think her remarks were blown way out of proportion.

“Is Aunt Jamima from the pancake mix considered to be a racists character?”

My son was dripping blood in the ER when the admin woman asked him his religion. He answered, “I’m a Jemimah’s Witness. We worship pancakes.”

People are afraid to have a sense of humor these days, and I absolutely hate it.

Yep. Nothing compared to Jimmy Kimmel, etc., actually dressing in blackface for comedy skits.

She wasn’t endorsing any standard, just saying what it was that she was raised in her local community with.

That said, she is a vile anti-Trump shrew, and she’s made tens of millions on her gigs.

I don’t think she liked lawyering and so don’t expect her to go back to that, but she was purged for other reasons with a bogus PC claim.

And now she gets to grow old alone, although with tons of money.

Uh, she's married with two or three kids.

Excellent post.

The below image says it all about Megyn. This is almost impossible to find on the internet anymore but I saved it! This photo was taken just moments before Megyn would take the stage to "moderate" the first Republican presidential debate back in 2015. She honestly thought that she was going to take down Donald Trump that night and become a hero to the Left and Never Trumpers. So confident was she that she was openly predicting that by the time that night was over, a "certain" candidate was going to be forced out of the race.

Just look at the expression on her face and that swagger. Not to mention the smiling and grinning flunkies in her wake. She really thought she was the cat's pajamas that night. Little did she know that it would be all downhill (for her) from there.

As the saying goes "When you mess with the bull, don't be surprised if you get the horns."

Well, Megyn got the horns that night. She clearly had no idea who she was up against.

You're both missing the point. The Aunt Jemima character was definitely a slave stereotype when she was introduced, and those images are still in the minds of people now in their late 60s or early 70s who grew up in the 1950s, when this advertisement was run:

They should have dropped the "Aunt" part when they dropped the head scarf, which was also a patronizing reference to the need to disguise or change black hair because it's not like most whites' hair that is a very sore point for blacks. Even the name "Jemima" traces to slave days—when to do ever hear it today? She was a "black mammy" character; and using such an image to sell a product should be as inherently offensive to today's society as using a male minstrel show figure would be. How about this old time characterization of semi-literate black language patterns of the old south, also from the 50s?

Not exactly respectful of her dignity. The characterization of her face also used to be darker and "shiny", even in the 70s:

Correcting this image to the non-bandana, not obese version was long overdue when it finally came around—in 1989, 100 years after the original Aunt Jemima images, modeled on an actual former slave, Nancy Green. To my view, the company hasn't done enough (the brand is owned by Quaker Oats, which is owned by PepsiCo, which is headed by an East Indian woman), and should drop the character altogether—or introduce her college-educated, natural-haired grandchild with a non-slave name to the buying public and have her front the product. Someone who looks like the young woman in this video below, without the attitude:

I’m surprised she didn’t wear black lingerie for the first Republican debate. Half the time she looked like she was wearing Victoria’s Secret lingerie on her shows.

.....and of course in spite of how much she dressed inappropriately and unprofessionally on the job, she screamed about regular sexual harassment. What a stupid hypocritical hag.....

“Uh, she’s married with two or three kids.”

I doubt that she even realizes it...given her hell-bent drive to take down Trump. In any case, family doesn’t mean much for high-power types like her. She may have people around, but she will be VERY LONELY.
