It is devastating. (not to overuse that word)
How did you fare with the storm? Please check in when you are able.
There was a 9-14 storm surge according to my family member who works at the NWS on this hurricane. I asked him this question today and he said that if the houses are gone, its more than like caused by the surge.
The inmates "volunteered to help their community following
the storm because theyve participated in programs to learn to
use heavy equipment while incarcerated at the jail," the sheriff's
office said.
Yes, the homes swept off their foundations definitely occurred due to storm surge. I was making fun at the expense of a catastrophic hurricane denier. Sorry about the confusion.
It ok. You know my situation. I can be a bit slow at picking up on the jokes !
Heartbreaking. Where to even begin?
Good riddance indeed.
NOAA has put out an aerial view map of the area showing damage. Nit is searchable by address so people can see if their houses or businesses are still standing:

Looks like there were tornados within the hurricane according to the accuweather reporter who also reported one gust of 155 in Panama City Beach area. There was a pine forest decimated. But compared to the forests out West after conflagrations, your forests will grow back because the trees are not dead and the dirt is not burnt to a crisp.
The photo of the bent over trees is something else.
Figment, would love to read what the scientists conclude after studying those trees. I feel a kind of pride that those trees refused to give ground. Resistors!
There’s a video posted, I believe on the Accuweather twitter, which is taken from a concrete building/condo looking down on the town. Houses are submerged to just below the eaves. That’s got to be a 10 foot surge.

That is encouraging only about 20% out. Of course most that are out are in area’s where the grid is trashed.
I read in the Destin Log (online) that the annual fishing rodeo starts back up this morning. It had been suspended Tuesday. Looks like most everything from the Walton/Bay county line westward (South Walton, Sandestin, Destin, Ft Walton) is up and running.
Aerial satellite map of damage. Excellent resource. Thanks!
Oct. 11 --PANAMA CITY Bay Medical Center Sacred Heart began the orderly evacuation of more than 200 patients to hospitals outside the area affected by Hurricane Michael early Thursday morning.
The hospital sustained roof, structural and water damage during the hurricane on Wednesday, and a section of the roof collapsed in the hospital's materials management building, compromising a significant store of supplies needed to sustain care over the long-term.
Hurricane Michael also caused substantial broken glass, cooling and plumbing issues, and loss of information systems.
Hospital staff were working to transport 209 patients in total, including 39 intensive care patients who were expected to be transferred first. Patients will be transferred to Ascension hospitals in Pensacola and Jacksonville, Florida, and Mobile, Alabama. Providence Hospital in Mobile, Alabama, St. Vincent Hospital in Jacksonville and Sacred Heart on the Emerald Coast in Miramar Beach are all also available to accept patients.
Evacuation is expected to be complete within 48 hours.
Tyra Palmer, senior vice president at Ardent Health Services, said crews worked through the night to clear roadways around the hospital, and by 3 a.m., 13 ambulance crews had started transporting patients.
The hospitals emergency department remains open, and Palmer said Bay Medical Center Sacred Heart planned to open its free-standing emergency room on Panama City Beach on Friday.Source: pnj.com
Good thing there was no storm surge, otherwise all those boats sitting on top of the sand dunes in the Tyndall AFB videos might have been moved even further inland.
