Newt Gingrich: Trump's Putin press conference 'most serious mistake of his presidency'
Washington Examiner ^ | July 16, 2018 | Naomi Lim

Posted on 07/16/2018 3:23:29 PM PDT by FewsOrange

Newt Gingrich on Monday offered rare, scalding criticism of President Trump, demanding that the president explain the comments he made during his controversial press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the conclusion of their talks in Helsinki.

"President Trump must clarify his statements in Helsinki on our intelligence system and Putin," the former House speaker wrote on Twitter. "It is the most serious mistake of his presidency and must be corrected—-immediately."

Trump received widespread scorn on Monday after he said at the media availability that he has yet to see any compelling reason why the Kremlin would have interfered in the 2016 election.

His comments follow special counsel Robert Mueller's indictment in federal court on Friday, which alleged 12 Russian military officials hacked Democratic email servers during the campaign.

Gingrich has been a vocal supporter of Trump, but he has on occasion provided constructive critiques of his performance.

Gingrich chastised Trump in April, claiming his administration had botched the release of Deputy Attorney Rod Rosenstein's memo outlining problems with fired FBI Director James Comey.

our intelligence system has turned political and therefore can’t be trusted on things political. They were just named as being co-conspirators in transferring illegal money to the Clinton campaign. And the sad thing is that it is not even hard to believe it. Remember that Hillary even used the “17 intelligence agencies” to try to win the election.

The Russian meddling meme is pure BS, and anyone with half a brain knows it.

Yet your online name certainly could make people wonder about that.

All he had to say is that he has great confidence in our intel - that Putin made a strong denial - but that he sides with our people. Nothing else said would matter.
...........................................................
Like HELL! We FINALLY get a president who believes in telling the truth and here you are demanding that he LIE!I do not have confidence in our intel and neither do millions of others who can clearly see the sellout that has been going on for ages!

.
Noot told the world what he was made of when he served his wife with a divorce summons in the hospital!

What can he possibly do as an encore after that?

Newt has been dreaming of being president for half a century -- or longer.

What he's saying here is that he wouldn't have done things the way Trump did.

Whether he's right or wrong about this being a major mistake is something that will be established later on.

I suspect it won't be. This is just a blip that people will forget about.

But if you had been thinking and talking and dreaming about politics for decades, you'd probably find things to criticize now as well.

It doesn't mean they're fatal mistakes. It just means Trump's style isn't your style.

Actually Gingrich was an early supporter and the RINO Priebus Established convinced Trump to not let Newt in.

If Gingrich were Chief of Staff, things would be much better on the Hill.

And Gingrich is correct. Trump’s public presser sucked. He needed to be much stronger on renegade Russia.

So... Brett got his talking point from Newt just in time for prime-time, and it’s now a FNC talking point.

Collusion.

He came across as siding with Putin on this issue. Very bad optics.

and Putin came across as siding with Trump on the Clinton 400 million issue. I thinnk Trump came out the big winner and I would like to see Trump take Putin up on the offer. Very GOOD optics for those who believe in trying to return honesty tothe political scene.

I doubt it. Most people don’t want to keep poking at the Russian bear. They want a good economy, jobs, and for the US to mind its own business for a change.

wants war with Russia too

Not defending Newt but taking extra steps towards cyber security, sanctioning Russian oligarchs (which Trump has done) does NOT equate with starting nuclear war...Russia is no different from China or even Germany at this point. Great powers who want to compete with the U.S. for dominance. Each country requires a unique tailor-fit response (like tariffs in China's case.) - This is not about military action!

I think a good many of the American people didn’t perceive the press conference as a defeat. It was more of a validation. Putin probably shared a lot of information about his predecessors and rogue CIA in Russia. Russia was being made to be the scapegoat of the globalists.

People seem to forget that President Trump plays the long game and is many steps ahead of most everyone else. What does a grizzled New York mob boss do with some who needs to be taken care of? Why they chummy up with the person and make him think everything’s gravy so he lets his guard down then then it’s quickly over. So I think President Trump is setting Putin up for a major take down. There can only be one top dog in this world and I wouldn’t bet on it being Putin.

Newt has also NOT seen the entire unredacted IG report. The President knows a great deal more than anyone.
