The Ottoman Empire did not allow black male slaves to be imported unless they were castrated. I’ve read that the survival rate for their castration method was appalling. Worse than slave ships going to North or South America. The Ottomans much preferred the Christian White slaves given to them through the jizya tax (Sinan the Architect) or from raiding white coastal cities.
