“What he(McCain) went through, no man would endure without cracking.”

YOU COULDN’T BE MORE WRONG. Learn the facts. Men in the SAME circumstances didn’t sing like the Songbird:

Bud Day Medal Of Honor Recipient(John McCain cellmate in Hanoi Hilton):
Day was shot down on Aug. 26, 1967, over North Vietnam. His right arm was broken in three places and his knee was badly sprained. Day was captured, taken to a prison camp where he was interrogated and tortured, and then escaped. He made it across the demilitarized zone, wandered for days and was unable to signal U.S. aircraft. Day was recaptured by the Viet Cong and returned to prison in Hanoi, where he gave his captors false information when being questioned.

“Despite his many injuries, he continued to offer maximum resistance,” reads Day’s Medal of Honor citation. “His personal bravery in the face of deadly enemy pressure was significant in saving the lives of fellow aviators who were still flying against the enemy.”

John McCain(Hanoi Hilton Songbird):
On the recording, a copy of which The Arizona Republic obtained from the National Archives and Records Administration, McCain says he is guilty of “crimes against the Vietnamese country and people” and compliments his medical treatment.

“The doctors were very good and they knew a great deal about the practice of medicine,” McCain says on the tape. “I remained in the hospital for some time and regained much of my health and strength. Since I arrived in the camp of detention, I have received humane and lenient treatment. I received this kind treatment and food even though I came here as an aggressor and the people who I injured have much difficulty in their living standards. I wish to express my deep gratitude for my kind treatment and I will never forget this kindness extended to me.”

There are recordings of his collaboration.

Bing search “recordings of McCain from Hanoi”

Guys, come on.. I am no fan of McCain, but this personal bashing of him pointlessly has to stop. Free Republic is better than this.... or at least it used to be.

Why covering up MIA and POW means so much to McQueeg is something I can’t understand.

As I have seen reported, his physical disabilities come from ejecting from plane(s).

The facts about the man (as relayed by those who served with him) are the facts. Sometimes facts reveal a traitor.

As for what Free Republic used to be, well....Sinkspur.

SOME of his injuries were as a result of ejecting from his aircraft. I have no idea whether he used "proper" ejection procedures or not, and I don't think anyone else does either. Ejecting from a fats-moving jet aircraft is a hazardous proposition in the best of conditions. I am not at all sure what the "proper" procedure would be doing so from a severely damaged plane which is in the process of falling from the sky.

There is evidence, including first-hand accounts from some of his fellow prisoners, that John McCain was tortured by the North Vietnamese, so I do not lend credence to claims that he was not.

I want to be clear that I am in no way a supporter of John McCain. His behavior as a politician and elected official has been nothing short of reprehensible, in my opinion. I also do not consider him any more or less of a "hero" than anyone else who simply did his duty during war time. It is my opinion that he served with honor but without distinction - and I do not think he collaborated with his captors.

"He's been a backstabbing snake, a thief, and a liar from his time as a member of the Keating 5 until this very day. "

Leopards don't change their spots. He obviously didn't change overnight into a backstabbing snake, thief and liar. I can't help but think that he's had those qualities all his life.

So, you expect John McCain to meet the same standards under torture while in captivity as a man who won the Medal of Honor?

There is a reason the Medal of Honor is awarded sparingly. It is for bravery and valor far above that normally expected of a soldier/sailor/marine/airman.

The boiler-plate, rote-style admissions/statements which you quoted in your post were, indeed, given by John McCain. Very similar such statements were also given by the overwhelming majority of the POWs tortured by the North Vietnamese.

By your standards, every POW except Bud Day was a “collaborator”.

Tell you what, come over to my place, I’ll set up a nice little waterboard for you... I won’t leave a mark on your body... I will ask you questions, you have no idea of the answer too, and lets see how long you last before you tell me anything I want to hear.

Stop being foolish.

Torture is used because it works.. EVERYONE breaks eventually... that’s the entire point of it. Anyone who tells you otherwise, doesn’t have a clue. It is not like the movies.

Following severe torture, Admiral Jeremiah Denton himself made statements quite similar to those made by John McCain - as did pretty much every POW in the Hanoi Hilton. Was Admiral Denton a “collaborator”?

When I was in SERE school in 1978 we received a lecture by a then Rear Admiral who was at the Hanoi Hilton at the same time as John McCain.

He told us what was done to him (McCain).

And it was gruesome. Cringe-worthy stuff.

There was nothing the Vietnamese wanted more than to have the son of the Commander of US Forces in the Pacific on film making disparaging commentary. It was the highest political and military objective of their national leadership.

You would make any movie they wanted you to make. As would any man.

Read the linked story.

John McCain rescued
John McCain being saved from drowning. The Vietnamese on the left, probably Mai Van On, holds his arm. McCain was confronted by an angry mob when he reached shore.

McCain was candid, though, in admitting that the injuries caused by his ejection, particularly his broken knee, drove him to try to bargain with his prison interrogators. He told them he would give them information if they took him to a hospital. He claimed he didn’t really intend to keep his word. But very soon he, like Chuck Rice, like James Stockdale, like every American POW in Hanoi, was broken. McCain did what the North Vietnamese ordered: He signed and made taped statements that could be used as propaganda against the United States of America.

There was no question that McCain was beaten and underwent torture and that he suffered a brutal experience. But as he put it in Faith of My Fathers:

“I also suspected that my treatment was less harsh than might be accorded other prisoners. This I attributed to my father’s position, and the propaganda value the Vietnamese placed on possessing me, injured but alive. Later, my suspicion was confirmed when I heard accounts of other POWs’ experiences during their first interrogations. They had endured far worse than I had, and had withstood the cruelest torture imaginable.”

At times Freerepublic has been a Bush League Republican cheering section, excusing the refusal to secure the borders and enforce the laws.
McCain has been a traitor to the citizens as Senator.

Will you be so kind as to provide the names of some of the men who were imprisoned with John McCain and who claim he was not tortured and was a collaborator?

That should not be at all difficult for you to do, and it would be very helpful in getting me started on my research.

See #54 and #55

McCain has been aiding and abetting the colonization of our country as a Senator. There is nothing lower than that.

Okay. What does that have to do with my opinion that McCain did not willingly collaborate with the North Vietnamese.

In fact, your post #54 actually supports that claim.

Furthermore, if you read the entirety of my post #48 you would know that I agree with you as to how reprehensible John McCain as been as a politician and elected official.

What, exactly, are you trying to prove to me?

“I cannot remember anyone ever in history pimping his own death the way McCain is.”

Excellent way to put it. Just like he pimped his being captured throughout his life.

The fact that Trump, with a single phrase, destroyed McShame’s fabricated hero image in the mind of most people, but especially McCain’s own, has turned him into a truly vile and despicable human being.
