The lines are being drawn. I am of the opinion that a civil war is no longer avoidable.

I agree, but it's going to be a lot more difficult than the last one was. The problem being that the divide today is not north/south. It is actually rural/city for the most part. So you don't have front-lines in the same sense that you did in CWI.

Instead, you'll have a 'front' that roughly correlates to the red/blue map at the county level. As an example, in Texas, you'd have 'blue' areas that constitute Austin and most of Houston, and Dallas, as well as areas on the southern border that might as well already be Mexico. In the situation of a 'hot' war, anyone who doesn't think Mexico won't try to absorb those areas is out of their mind.

On the bright side, simply instituting an embargo to the cities will have the cities falling completely apart within a week, as they have at most 4 days of food and gas available. OTOH, you'll need a lot of ammo to keep the ferals in those cities, and you'll need the will to actually use it.

Overall, I think it can be done, but it will require some really hard-nosed folk, who aren't interested in modern 'humanitarian' bullshit.
