I know. All parents would be in jail today if they let their kids do what parents let my generation do. I’m thankful my kids aren’t as bad with my grandkids as some of them these days.
To which you reply,
Since you have neither a warrant nor probable cause nor exigent circumstance, I do NOT agree to your request to travel with you.
Further, I will remind you that deprivation of rights under the color of law is a violation of US code Title 18 section 242
Because no abusing parent ever takes their kid out?
I have dealt with child abuse on a professional basis for a number of years.
Abusers will frequently tell you how much they love their kids.
What the cops did in that case was completely appropriate.
I agree. Whoever called the cops, though--that's another story.
At which point you’ll be wrestled to the ground while “resisting arrest” and cuffed; or tased, or shot.
If there are two cops, one can yell ‘don’t move’ and the other can yell ‘raise your hands’ then whichever you disobey gets a free shot.
Smart folks save their lawyering for the courtroom, not the roadside.
You have no idea what they witnessed. Only what the mom said. And she is not a neutral party. Why not give the callers the benefit of the doubt that they were concerned and did what they thought was in the interest of the safety of a child.
As I mentioned previously, I am a parent of two kids on the autism spectrum (Asperger's). I know the difficulties faced by parents of children with full-blown autism due to social interactions. I also know that people who have never dealt with autism know NOTHING about dealing with those who have it. Five minutes of watching would've shown those busy-body bystanders that the family was not abusing their kids.
Five minutes. That's all. Instead they decided they knew what was best for the kids after 10 secs, and called the cops.
You ask me to give them the benefit of the doubt, yet you require no such thing from them? This is why I have the attitude I have.
And a lot of citizens give up their rights on the roadside only to find out that when they do, they can’t get them back in court.
