No, they just wait for the computer to compensate for the change in power. My understanding of Airbus pilot training, and I’m certainly no pilot, is there are 2 options; put all of your trust into the computer or not and hope that whatever decision you make is the right one.

You are right about weather radars and reports but technology has made some (only a few) better than others at handling turbulence.

All large twin jets are ETOPS “Extended-range Twin-engine Operational Performance Standards”.

For example, an aircraft that has an ETOPS 120 is rated to fly 120 minutes on a single engine to reach an alternate airfield.

The Boeing 777 is rated at 320, and the Airbus A350 is rated at 370. The average though is about 180 minutes.

As far as flying sideways, the flight control computer will compensate for the engine loss by adjusting the trim and adding rudder input.
