According to the Wikipedia, "Shelby County was established on February 7, 1818, and it was named for the Revolutionary War hero and the first Governor of Kentucky, Isaac Shelby."
Nine states have a county named after Isaac Shelby, and there are 11 cities and towns and three military installations named after him. (See the list here.)
