As a former 2nd Ranger Bn guy, I ask the same question. Was proud when he stood alone, disgusted with his apology. I do however wonder what they threatened him with to get him to issue an apology.
I think everybody is getting this wrong. He said in the press conference that he will ALWAYS stand for the National Anthem. What he regrets is the way it played out. He team was supposed to be right behind him in the tunnel. He was not trying to be a hero.
Readily will I display the intestinal fortitude required to fight on to the Ranger objective and complete the mission, though I be the lone survivor.
I know he was under pressure to apologize, but in my eyes, he lacked the intestinal fortitude to fight on; I'm disappointed in that.
Sounds like you got that right.
