Thanks for letting us know. I was a huge fan of Steve McQueen and as a child bought every movie magazine which featured him on the cover. I was terribly saddened at his pre-mature death. Since those days, I’ve met several actors who worked with him in the 50s as well as the 70s. All felt that drugs (and cigarettes) played a huge role in his behavior and in his health decline. He was an icon and will always be the King of Kool for me.
His wife, Ali McGraw, said he was the most patriotic person she ever knew.
Wow. Never knew this.
Steve McQueen was THE cool guy....and married to the most beautiful actress to ever come out of Hollywood, Natalie Wood.
God reels in some of the most unlikely people. The makeup of heaven is going to be quite surprising. But then again since God is Lord of everything we shouldn’t be surprised. Every knee shall bow one day.
Only married to her in the movies, my FRiend. He was married to Neil McQueen (a lady) and Ali McGraw.
I often think of what his take would be on the driverless car.
Believe he loaded asbestos onto the gunboats and that is how he came into contact with the stuff in it’s pure form. Plus the fireproof safety gear he wore as a race car driver was partly made of asbestos as well. This is a point of interest to me concerning McQueen’s life because my grandfather died in 1984 of the same type of asbestos related cancer (Grandpa was exposed to it working in petroleum refineries during the 1920s and 30s and building houses in the 1940s and 50s).
What got him was when he was in the Marines and was assigned a job on a ship that was being stripped to go to the scrap year. He was exposed to a lot of asbestos and later on he got Mesothelioma. That is what killed him.
We have tickets to see this Thursday night.
He definitely was the King of Cool.
One night only. Guess I’ll have to wait for it to show up on PBS.
Well yes, Dean Martin was the other King of Cool.
I'm 150 miles from the nearest theater so look forward to the DVD.
Thanks for that info - for some reason I’ve always thought they were married in real life.
I’ve never been a movie buff and still rarely watch - most are pure garbage. But Steve McQueen and Natalie Wood certainly embedded their images in my mind.
To this day, I believe Robert Wagner was involved in her death.
Five theaters within 10 miles of my residence.
Two within 5 miles.
Got tickets for the movie this Thursday night.
