>>a lot of it is people coming on tourist or student visas and then just not going back when they expire.

The wall will be effective as one large enforcement tool.
It must be accompanied by severe punishment for all who harbor, hire, enroll, and otherwise aid and abet persons found to be here illegally.
Dayum. You had me right up until the But.
Because it’s not Trump speaking.
Maybe some of the concern trolls will be mollified - who am I kidding, they will just find more creative ways to air their “concerns” about Trump as he steadfastly labors to get his agenda taken care of....
Cut off freebies to illegals and we’d have funding for half a dozen walls.
To me, the ONLY thing that counts are the words coming directly from President Trump’s mouth.
Sorry Dick, Nancy, et al.
No more amnesty
There has to be an unbelievable amount of $$$$$$$ in the cheap labor express. Yes the Democrats want the votes, but still I think money is what really talks to them. I have said illegal immigration will end up being the biggest fight of all- with all the serious issues and divide I still think illegal immigration/border security will be the tough one to get done.
Not really, they have given lip service mostly. A lot of miles of the fence that was supposed to have been built under the secure fence act still has not been built. Construction was just stopped, no money was the excuse. Long stretches of the border still have barb wire cattle fencing and that is it. Many more miles there was only a vehicle barrier built and no real fence. Virtual fences have failed; the heat, wind, dirt is hard on them and the border is so isolated in many areas it is next to impossible for them to get maintenance done.
Most of the money that has been spent was for repair, replace fence that gets destroyed by smugglers on a regular basis in high traffic areas. I think funding was more talk than reality in the past. The truth is the dims and RINOs do not want a secure border.
“Do you really think a wall is going to stop illegal immigration? “
No, I don’t, but I do see it as a key part of immigration enforcement and also a monument to this country’s commitment to security. It was a campaign promise, and one that probably was the most likely one for citizens to seize upon in their decision making process as to whom to vote for for President. The visa overstays should be low-hanging “fruit,” as these people have no legal recourse for staying here (not that some of them won’t hire beaner lawyers and try to assert that they do). The other thing that we need to get very serious about is illegals who return after being deported. It will be expensive, but again it’s probably an expense that we need to pass back onto the Mexican Government, and we need to start prosecuting businesses that knowingly hire illegals and jailing them if found guilty.
Bingo. Finish the wall and then we'll talk.
Without a secure border it does not matter how many you deport; they simply come right back. Border Patrol often catches the same illegals over and over. We must secure the border, with a real barrier to patrol and protect or the other things we do will not work.
Yes that is a fact. A wall or secure barrier on the border is not symbolic, it is a requirement or they just come right back.
We did not vote for any DEAL. We voted for a brand new substantial structure to keep the aliens out. The Hoover Dam was built in 5 years if that’s any relevant comparison of concrete construction. I am no engineer but a citizen who is sick of the colonization of America. Israel is doing a good job on their West Bank Wall. It can be done but will the Deep State Swamp defeat it?
“Kelley is just closing the door behind the Dims now that theyre in corral.”
That’s a good way to put it!
Ask Hungary too!
Not funding. Efficient spending is the word. Congress already funded $1.4 B to build a 700 mile stretch starting in San Diego. Has’t been done.
I bet that if ‘volunteers’ were asked to step forward, there would be so many, it would re populate Texas. :)
No incarceration facilities at the border? I would think they must have something.
But our military can build its own temporary stuff as it goes elsewhere in the world, why not at our border?
(And obviously you know more about this than I do, which is why I am asking.)
“Deporting the illegals already in the country is probably more important than a wall which is somewhat symbolic in nature.”
Wrong.
The pols who make the same argument: Ryan, Obama and others—they don’t consider the walls surrounding their homes to be `symbolic’.
Our experience is that we deport illegals and with no real border security they `boomerang’ right back.
And the illegals committing the most crimes against Americans usually have been deported and then boomeranged right back. Kathryn Steinle’s killer had been deported five times.
The Border Patrol and ICE must get discouraged seeing the same criminals over-and over.
You are making the argument of the left: that it makes sense to bail a flooded basement with a sieve while failing to address the cause: mole holes.
She’s right as usual. No wall, no peace.
