One worry, if one of the current tracks hold storm goes from Cuba to Naples passes over Keys, almost 150 miles to regenerate. That could be enough time to get stronger. Question is how much stronger? even that unless it goes inland still a huge problem.
Truth is it’s a problem if it stays out in the Gulf or goes inland damned if you do or don’t.

A SAM would be completely useless in 120mph winds. I doubt you could get a successful launch.

While warm waters N of Cuba will surely increase strength, the 0500 NHC Discussion talked about some wind shear...
There is an opportunity for Irma to re-intensity as it crosses the
warm waters of the Florida Straits. However, the large-scale
models forecast significant westerly shear developing at about
24 h, and it is unclear how much strengthening could occur before
then. The first part of the intensity forecast thus calls for
little change in strength through 36 h, and Irma is still expected
to be a dangerous hurricane as it approaches the Florida Keys and
the west coast of Florida. After that time, movement over land and
strong shear should cause steady weakening, with Irma eventually d
ecaying to a remnant low by the end of the forecast period.

I don’t trust this storm. This has been a roller-coaster and the models, while tighter, can do anything in next hours.
Bringing in my outside stuff this morning and finishing preps.
Prayers for Florida, for our safety and common sense.

I seem to recall an old agreement between US and Cuba that hurricane hunters will not fly over Cuba due to military no-fly restrictions.

The Weather channel had a graphic that seemed to indicate that he HH went very close to Cuba. Supposedly entered the eye from the South East.

The track shifts have been a crap shoot with this monster storm. I’m liking the discussion of wind shear in 24 hrs...

The sheriff’s patrol car just drove through the neighborhood with the bullhorn. It was so muffled, couldn’t understand what it was saying...

There was a guy from Florida Power & Light on Hannity last night saying that millions could be left without power. I think I’m more worried about the storm’s aftermath now. I hope the gov has called up enough National Guard...
