NHC shows stationary at present. I’d have to see a zoomed in track history to see when it really became stationary (doesn’t seem to be easily available) but Harvey sure has not been moving much the last several hours.

Houston Police radios just mentioned that phone lines were beginning to be overwhelmed or damaged by flooding...
Communication is an increasing problem......

I’d be starting that hole by the time the water got to the floor of the attic. Having used axes and hatchets quite a bit, I’m SURE I could make a large enough hole to get out in under 20 minutes, through either 3/4” plywood, or OSB.
That said, I’d be more likely to use my cordless drill and cordless sabre saw, with a couple spare blades. Coarse metal cutting blades would be best in case a nail or two are hit. (Likely.) The hand axe, a really good & sharp one, would be a backup. I cut fairly large holes in 3/4 “ plywood, OSB, and high density particle board with a sabre saw all the time: Big enough to crawl through, even in a difficult situation — 5 minutes tops. But I realize, not that many people have cordless sabre saws.

Yes, another band headed in. I have relatives in Austin and friends somewhat south of Houston.

The problem with that was that all sorts of critters wanted to share the roof with them -- such as snakes... Breakfast! (Don't leave the hand axe in the attic.)

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I really HOPE Abbott was wrong, but it’s not looking that way...

I just looked at the NWS precip totals in the area — over 25” in a fairly large area WNW of Galveston (but still not up to Houston... yet...)
That band heading into the Houston area looks wicked, including multiple tornado warnings too. Being on a roof could get VERY hairy. (70 tornado warnings associated w/ Harvey so far, they are saying on KHUO right now.)

Use this map with settings on 3HR and 6HR, it looks like areas south of Hobby along I45 are getting beat up badly.
One gauge in League City showed 23.45” of rain in the last 24 hours. A fire station showed over an inch of rain per every 15 minute reporting section.
This will not be pleasant for any of the 8,000,000 in the greater Houston metro area.

Yep. High water and cars don’t mix.
I’m still listening to Houston TV stations / can’t sleep, even tho’ exhausted. My goodness, we are witnessing the 4th largest city in the US taking very significant damage...

I can’t sleep, either.
I got more sleep during hurricanes when I lived in the Houston area than I’m getting now in Colorado because I’m worrying about friends and relatives back home!

I think the neighbors in that picture should have figured out a way to get their cars in the garage.

Just heard it is moving about one mph.
To: caww
Okay, so my front yard doesn’t look like that yet. The water is higher than it got with Allison.
