A big gripe around here is lawmakers voting on bills when they have no idea what’s in them. Are we now giving the President a pass on doing the same?

I hope I’m wrong - but I saw a shift in policy at the time of the fake gas attack.

I was hoping he would stick to his guns.

You could be on to something...look at the healthcare bill (AHCA)...dreamed up by the RINO’s in Congress and forcefully backed by Mr. Trump (with threats of “primarying”)...did the Trump administration have any input at all? Just wants a “win” or a “deal” as you say?

We took your money, your freedom and took a dump on your face.

But we did it for you. :)

Not a win. Maybe the best we can do, but not a win.

No point in pretending otherwise.

He thinks he can convince his base that if he does it, it’s good. So, the objective here is “deals.” There is no real ideological component to anything he does.

Wrong. The objective is govern. Listen to what Mulvaney says. The Dems WANTED a shut down. Wanted no chance of obamacare repeal, tax reform, etc. while we have a food fight over this spending bill.

Tantruming conservatives and Democrats are once again on the same side. How funny is that?

Yeah I like Pence in general. But he was sent In as a sacrificial lamb. His words had no traction. Sorry Mr President but you have to hold congresses’ nose to the grindstone. They need to vote with 51, not 60. The nuclear genie is out of the bottle. Use it early and often.

“When Trump chose Pence my heart sank, because I thought Trump needed to look outside our irredeemably corrupt and depraved political class.”

Yup. This is the correct answer.

Pence, Preibus, and Ryan in ‘action’.

Politicians, by default, are lowlife scumbags.

Freeper DoodleDawg explained it clearly on another thread today. "Trump wants a deal. Deal is all he cares about. It doesn't matter what it is a deal on or what the particulars are, he wants a deal he can sign and which will give him a sense of winning. "

I've said the same thing many times here. Winning is great as long when it advances a conservative agenda. That is winning. Passing a bill that advances a liberal agenda is not winning.

Do you honestly think “good governing” is the reason ANY Trump supporter voted for him?

He was elected for three reasons:

1. End the loss of manufacturing jobs.
2. Build a wall.
3. Yell at domestic enemies

In the end, this agreement is a problem primarily for the fact that he’s showing a willingness to compromise on the wall. He absolutely cannot do that under any circumstances.

>Did anyone read this Budget or are they guessing what’s in it ?

It’s like 5,000 pages. We have no idea what’s in it.

“But he was sent In as a sacrificial lamb”

Who sez he was sent in?

This looks and sounds like it’s Pence defending HIS tar baby.

If I were Trump, I’d be researching the reprogramming of designated money. I know it gets done all the time in other areas, but this one will be controversial.

The Continuing Resolution that was just passed explicitly prohibits spending any money on new wall construction; it permits only repairs to existing parts of the fence.

There is one MAJOR problem with shutting down our government: it will hurt military families.

Before September, there needs to be something to pay our military in case of Government shutdown. The REPUBLICAN Congress needs to go NUCLEAR over the Democrats over this.

Maybe ICE and Homeland Security should also be paid.

But there could be exclusions to this: any rank in the military about 2 stars (Generals, Admirals) can have their pay suspended.

The troops in the field need to be protected, not the Generals or Admirals.

The defense contractors are important, their money and campaign contributions to politicians like John McCain and Lindsey Graham.......
