Question: has Spencer always owned the term "alt-right"?
I believe Steve Bannon uses the term with a significantly different meaning. He would define it via nationalist slant on the issues of trade, immigration, and foreign wars: yes to economic protectionism, no to unresrticted immigration, no to "global cop" military intervention.
Perhaps simple-mindedly, I myself always assumed "alt-right" just meant more conservative than the RNC and National Review.
But I guess I may be wrong.
If the alt-right actually means what Richard Spencer says it means, I'm outtathere, and pronto.
Your thoughts?
Yes, it really is as simple as that. Richard Spencer = alt right. This removes it completely from American conservatism, positions it as an adversary to American patriotism and reveals Spencer to be a fraud. That is, a fraud to the extent he tries to associate with conservatives.
I don't think this person is anything that any of us here would call a Conservative. "Alt-Rite" maybe.
Wow, so many ignorant and cucky comments to respond to.
By reading the comments on this thread, I see mainstream Conservatism is still just as clueless and feckless as it's ever been.
Mainstream conservatism is pretty much irrelevant now, and will be a curious oddity in American politics in 20 or 30 years.
Conservatives haven't been fighting (and winning against) Antifa the past few months. That's mostly Alt Right and Alt Lite.
I can't remember Conservatives fighting back against Leftist thuggery at any time in my life.
Just one example.
But keep it up. Keep calling the very people actually successfully engaging the Left "Nazis" (just like the Liberals do).
Keep crying and whining that white people shouldn't pursue their interests.
The Alt Right and Alt Lite will continue to grow and win and cucked Conservatives will continue to become more and more irrelevant.
Free Republic is now Cuckservative headquarters.
Hard right are anti Semite.....were always Nazis and they are pure of motive
Liberal Jews or other progressives always and I mean always say this
They've even tossed it at Trump over and over
Liberal Jews cannot be criticized for what they do except by other Jews and that's another can of worms
Academia and print media is littered with the careers of those who had the temerity to call a spade a spade here
It's about any pet left group
Criticize blacks you're a racist
Homos you're a homophobe
On and on
I have no idea who this’ll guy is
I tell you one thing evangelicals in particular love to virtue signal over anti semitism
Trust me liberal Jews do not detest them any less for it
This is just how it is
Sorry
Aside from black liberation crap and muzzies there is almost no anti semitism anywhere else here anyway
Ok...I'll make a statement
I think Harvey Weinstein and other liberal Jews in Hollywood make movies on purpose that denigrate traditional Christian America and do it repeatedly
I think they influence writers for the message they want and I think their peers in media and academia are not much different
Now does that make me anti Semite despite my affection for Israelis or support of Netanyahu?( I do not see Israelis a some sort of Armageddon good luck charm...they are just good folks in a bad neighborhood)
Who's the real bigot...it's painfully obvious to me that the average liberal Jewish Hollywood mogul detests most of what i believe in
I refuse to be blind and nor will I get distracted over the lefts smears
I don't know anyone who believes the holocaust never happened or Jews deserve to die
But I ain't blind to what I see....
If you ponder being called anti Semite frequently maybe you ought to think about that and learn to quit reacting to how they shut us up thru language ownership....politely suggested....get yourself a pet....a green frog
I’d think a more conservative view than most American conservatives, like one you ascribe to Bannon, would be better served by the word ultra right. As for alt-right, I believe its association with Spencer puts him outside the pale for anyone not obsessed with race. The article is very good as it exposes Spenser’s views in a way that prove they’re not in anyway compatible with American conservatism.
The alt-right, no matter who thinks or offers themselves as part of it, is not a monolithic block of folk all subscribing to the same views on every issue. To take one of them, and attach his view to all of them, merely (a) misses they are not a uniform block and (b) wrongly smears those among them that do no share the views of the person you are opposing.
Take individuals, always, and either appreciate or oppose their views. That is more important than any social or political labels.
alt-right is BS, the same as “far right”.
At any rate, read Spencer’s book ‘Onward Muslim Soldiers’.
