Well, I think morality dictates that wealthy nations stop mass starvation wherever and whenever practicable. That doesn’t mean I am for an endless stream of handouts.
And in the circumstance of a widespread famine, I think the government, with all of its resources, is the best poised to do that. I see no difference betwen that and providing support to the victims of a tsunami or earthquake.
You may not agree with me, but that doesn’t mean I can’t say and vote as my conscience tells me to. What I find more interesting is that some people here think that such an opinion is not conservative.
Looking at everything through a rights based framework with no corollary consideration of obligations is actually more characteristic of modern liberalism.
