I kind of was too, but this result is yet another kick in the groin to Bernie supporters, and will only help split the party more. We'll se how it goes.
No matter who won, they’re going to lose at least 10 seats in the Senate in 2018. Those seats will flip back to the Republicans where they were before Obama won in 2008. They’ll probably lose a few more governorships along the way too. They are a party apparatus being forced further to the left by their base.
Oh, I expected it to be Perez Hilton.

The salient point is that slaves didn’t vote. At all. To count them at all, from a census perspective, was to give more clout in the federal government to the slave owner (or whoever else was voting in the same Congressional District).
Accordingly it was the antislavery faction in the constitutional convention which would have preferred not to count slaves at all for those purposes - and the slave-state faction which would have preferred to count slaves the same as free men.
