The Wage and Hour Division (WHD) of the Department of Labor has primary jurisdiction when it comes to enforcing fair labor standards. It is their job to crack down on employers who are employing undocumented workers. The Labor Department’s Wage and Hour Division has a memorandum of understanding with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under which they can give temporary legal status to undocumented workers if they’re needed as witnesses in a case against a major employer who hires illegal aliens.
I would expect the Trump administration to greatly expand the number of Labor Department Wage and Hour Division investigators.
Yes, you are correct that he withdrew but why? It had nothing to do with his ability to do the job to the expectations and standards that the President would specify for him.
He withdrew because scumbag democrats and their media accomplices dug up decades-old testimony in his divorce case. Anyone knows that testimony in a divorce case is UNRELIABLE. His ex-wife stated in social media that she was being hounded by media scumbags chasing after her to get some garbage on her ex. But her protestations never made it to the national news, but the made-up scandal did make it.
It should be illegal for any news organization, any investigator, any private person to USE divorce testimony against parties to a divorce UNLESS THERE WAS A CONVICTION. It is easy to run criminal checks on nominees and in fact I am certain that the Administration does precisely that before they announce a nominee.
I remember what the scumbag democrats and the national news media tried to do to Justice Thomas in 1991, especially the numbskull known as Joseph Biden, when they trotted out a liar known as Anita Hill and proceeded to skewer him based on hearsay and direct but vacuous testimony. He wanted to withdraw but the President told him to stay and fight and he won.
This kind of sh*t needs to stop by passing laws and restricting congressional inquiries as to abilities and background criminal checks, or solid ties to crooks.
As for political ‘views’, I still say that is secondary because each member of the President’s Cabinet serves at the pleasure of the President, so there are only views relevant to the views of the President. Any prior views are irrelevant. Each Cabinet Member is not making policy on their own, it is the President that is responsible for policy. The members are there only to carry out the President’s policies.
But I did check on DOL’s enforcement responsibilities. Here is the relevant summary in regards to ties to DHS:

Importantly, the DOL is not tasked to crack down on illegals, they are tasked to enforce safety and quality standards on EMPLOYERS.
Without E-Verify, there is very little means to ensure that employers have the tools to hire only eligible workers. As I described earlier in my own case, I hired a legitimate subcontractor who then proceeded behind my back to hire a whole group of illegals for some manual labor. Had I not made a site check, that activity would have completely escaped me.
Hiring more DOL investigators is not going to solve the problem. E-Verify will go much further in minimizing illegal hiring coupled with making it easier for people to report idendity theft.
But the best, the very best policy for stopping illegals is the WALL ad the ICE crackdowns. DOL’s major responsibilities are wages, safety, child labor, migrant labor. After the WALL is up and ICE has got a handle on catching people as they enter, DOL needs to very little in terms of immigration enforcement and hiring of illegals.
