Remember Katrina. A Dem Governor, a Dem Mayor catastrophe, and then the Dems blamed Bush.

So is this a wash and repeat. They've been calling for a evacuation for days. If the area is destroyed, it will be no different than those areas destroyed by tornado, and hurricanes elsewhere.

BUT..since it is California, the Dems will scream and shout that it's Trump's fault, and the Republicans. This will be par for the course.

This gentleman has several exalent you tube videos about this. This link is from a couple of days ago explaining what had happened to that point and what they need to do including getting the power house functioning again. Well worth watching the whole 17 minutes.

I'm going to have fun reading (rereading?) this long thread. The only thing I can add is to repeat my constant refrain...

Spend 80 years building a very expensive system of Dams, reservoirs and recharging wells since 1870 or so, after the great valley flood of 1860.

In the 1970s, spend obscene amounts through bond issues to remove dozens of dams, reservoirs, and abandon to neglect the recharging well system, in the northern half of the state...

10 to 15 years later, Spend massive amounts of money through more bond issues, to please the doped up greenies, drugged-up hippies, friends of bugs, bunnies and sardines, and and "sports" fishermen, added to massive transfer of water to Southern California, where the clueless and wasteful voters and water users are. More than half of the massive bond issues for Purposes other than local citizens' and agricultural needs.

Zero % for adequate maintenance and additions to the infrastructure serving the human needs of the local population.

California, the Nation's breeding grounds for Monumental stupidity and waste.

well now they are saying they are going to clear more debris before they start the power plant again..this is a change since yesterday

the local sheriff said he might lift the evacuation warning Monday if the full 14,000 cfs from all six turbines is flowing.

obviously he was told the plan was to have all 6 up by Monday or soon after

read between the lines:

the water level is rising again because of the outflow from the plants...not enough debris has been removed yet to prevent backup

well after a very dry start is has been very wet..lake level 794 feet..a very warm and wet system will be moving in....looks like they might have to test the spillway after all

Lake Oroville: Potential use of main spillway next week

SACRAMENTO April 3, 2018 – Forecasted storms expected in the Feather River basin this weekend may require using Lake Oroville’s flood control outlet spillway (also known as the main spillway) this week or next.

After last year’s spillway incident, the Department created the 2017/18 Lake Oroville Winter Operations Plan to ensure public safety in the event of major storm events. This plan triggers more aggressive outflow from Hyatt Powerplant and potential use of the main spillway should the reservoir’s elevation reach 830 feet during the month of April. The current forecasts show the potential for inflows to raise the reservoir to near the 830-foot trigger elevation by the middle of next week. Currently, the lake elevation is 794 feet.

In anticipation of the incoming weather, DWR began increasing outflows today, April 3, from Hyatt Powerplant to approximately 10,000 cfs. The total capacity of outflows from Hyatt Powerplant is currently 12,500 cfs. If necessary, DWR also has use of the River Valve Outlet System which has an additional maximum outflow capacity of 4,000 cfs.
