Zero chance, political stunt...
some northern California counties along the Oregon border. And a few Oregon counties as well.
The victors write the histories so the history books read the southern states seized federal property. In reality the states created the federal government and were taking back their property from the feds. Just pointing out a view of states rights, not endorsing slavery as it existing pre civil war I.
Can you add San Diego to that state?
Bump for later reading.
Let's assume California actually DOES secede ...
They've thoroughly screwed up everything about their agriculture and fishing, so they'll need to be financed BIGLY just to operate.
Faggots shitting in the streets of SF don't pay taxes.
What country would LOVE to own 4/5 of the west coast of the USA ?
This is a stupid idea
They are also much better armed than the residents of the "blue" counties, with the possible exception of ghetto dwellers. In addition, the "red" counties contain most of the state's reservoirs, so California could have trouble getting enough water should they decide to pull a West Virginia and secede from the state in order to remain in the union.
Actually he did want war, unlike Pierce and Buchanan before him. War was the reason for implementing Scott’s Anaconda and calling up 75,000 troops. Lincoln’s old Democrat rival Douglas endorsed Lincoln’s use of force to compel the seceding states to remain in the Union. What Lincoln didn’t expect was the huge extent of the war he was setting in motion.
It could probably be done if the two original states agreed and Congress voted to admit the new state into the Union.
Didn't some other assholes try something like this some years ago? I heard it didn't work out so well for them.
Sure about that? No shortage of successful
desperate lunatics in my reading of history.
Problem is when they want readmitted it will be with several million illegals!!!
From the WashPo’s four step guide to secession, states can....
1. Ask politely (zero chance of success)
2. Amend the Constitution (low chance of success)
3. Use force (basically zero chance of success)
4. Wait for failure of American experiment (100% chance of success)
California is all talk—They can not leave the Union—Remember a time back some states in the south tried that and lots of folks died. Will Trump let them leave peacefully? NO! he will send in the army—arrest the Governor and the assembly, try them for treason. Occupy and purge the state of “Rebel” Democrat power. Reduced them to an occupied territory- redo the flag to 49 states (or admit Guam or washington DC as a state). Send in a Governor-General to run things until new elections could organize the state’s new Government. Ban all rebels from voting and or holding office. Purge illegals from the state.
Send in the national guard to seal thier border sit back and watch. This will be Americas petri dish get out the popcorn
Isn’t it amusing how many non-resident California experts
show up on these Cali secession threads? It is as if
there are absolutely no California conservatives here at
FR Nation. The truth is FR has more California FReepers
than from anywhere else. And, it is also true that
the state of California has more conservatives than the
TOTAL population of some of these poster’s states
of residence.
As a 4th generation Californian myself, I know what kind
of a state we used to be. We have always had our share
of free spirits but we didn’t invent liberalism. Some
of those lefties originated from very states that these
Cali hating posters call home. Hell, the haters should
be thanking us for taking in their rabble. Their gain
became our loss. Instead of jumping on the kick Cali
bandwagon they might research the State of Jefferson
project and educate themselves as to how the secession
movement might be a win-win for conservatives all over the
US including those of us presently in California.
I can’t help but think that a little of this Cali acrimony
has less to do with politics than it does with some good
old fashioned jealousy but that is a subject for another
time and thread.
I agree with you.
I for one do not revere Abraham Lincoln. I think he began the destruction of federalism. I think he was in fact a tyrant.
Like you, I am speaking very specifically, not in any way endorsing either slavery or assassination.
(I think slavery could have and would have been ended through economic sanctions, without the loss of hundreds of thousands of lives, and without the damage to states’ rights.)
Thank you for your reply. Sounds like we need to split the state in half then. Oregon and east Oregon, or vice versa. Wish we could.
Sounds good to me!
