Bourdain’s point is that the mainstay of the Democratic Party (roughly half of the voters) were regular working-class-middle-class individuals. And for at least two decades (maybe longer), they were simply cast aside and not courted like all the other ‘special’ groups. So a percentage of this group...maybe 10-percent or more...just walked away.
If Trump does bring jobs and economic growth, this group will permanently stay, and won’t return back to the Democrats.
I wouldn’t worry, the Democrats will sit for at least a decade trying to figure out the Trump magic, and never once try to center their whole program on the middle-class.
And I hope democrats will miss that point and double down on big government liberalism.
Not that this guys opinion matters, but it wasn’t east coast elite liberals it was radical Marxist liberals that Trump saved us from.
Even the word “eastern” is misleading. It’s largely confined to the I-95 megalopolis.
Wow, I couldn’t believe that was Chris!
Listen to this one. He, among very few, figured out early on what Trump was tapping into, and that the dissatisfaction was real and legitimate. This video talk was before the primaries. Good for us no one on the democrat listened to him. From these videos, it seems like he is becoming someone who is not leaving the democrat party, but the party is leaving him.
IDEAS OUT LOUD: Chris Matthews / Washington Ideas Forum 2015
They do it all the time they just call it something else. We like Royalty here whether we recognize it or not. Well not thee and thou of course.
Just trying to walk back his never Trump diatribe of late. He must of got a boatload of nasty reactions from that one. I use to like his No Reservations show then he went to CNN and really let his lib flag fly. Just another chickens**t liberal punk forced to cover his tracks out of career & financial considerations.
None of the liberals I know are budging. Obama isn’t leaving the halls of influence. For Petes sake, Carter is still trying to relevant while we have paid in blood and money for decades for his shah mess. These are the same people who had a tome of legislation called Obamacare ready on his Inauguration Day. They are usually a step ahead of us, prob because we work and are generally ok with life’s twists n turns. Maybe trumps trillion in stimulus is good balm, or his “we will have to work something out” on the dreamers. He’s pretty liberal as his record shows. If he builds a wall and makes insurance available across state line, I would still call him a centrist.. but all of that is yet to be seen.
