Some FReeper said something like that ... "Sometimes it takes a despicaple thug to get done the things that need to get done .... or words to that effect.

I personally don't see Duterte as a thug, but a strict dad that ain't afraid to take off his belt and whip his kid and DAMN the children and youth services ... you're gonn'a frikkin' OBEY !

That kid turns out to be a morally strong man or woman that makes a papa proud.

I believe the affectionate word for Duterte is "tatay", eh ?

Good examples are Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, etc - as soon as their strongmen were dispatched they went from stable if despotic countries, to unimaginably brutal and chaotic hellholes.

Look at Mexico. Not problems from a thug dictator, as much as it is a problem from the drug cartels. How does Mexico solve its drug problem? Rent a few helicopters maybe?
