But the tribe does exist (unlike Jim Jones and David Koresh whose personality driven cults did not survive their founder's deaths). I would say that comparing them to Christian Scientists would be more accurate. A small offshoot sect with unusual beliefs that has none the less found a niche in the larger world and continued for a long time.
According to the article the Aghori trace their lineage back to the 17th Century, so I think it's fair to say they are part of the Hindu tradition by now.
