Only, it’s not “law.”

2) To get homosexuals out of church affairs is going to take a constitutional amendment and Congress is not going to do one.

The First Amendment isn't durable enough? Why would another amendment be any more durable?

Easy, in my opinion. His promise to defend freedom of religion makes me think the law will change such that they are not required to participate.

I don’t think he ever promised to overturn gay marriage, but he did promise to protect people like these bakers and photographers, and the churches and other institutions being forced to take part in gay marriage against their will.

I may be wrong, but it doesn’t surprise me Trump is accepting gay marriage if in fact he is. I do fully expect him to keep his word on protecting your right to refuse to take part in it.

The President of the US is not Chief Priest or Spiritual Leader....you want to change people’s minds on social issues like same sex marriage? Protest the Catholic Church, the Schools, Academia, etc...Get “Conservatives” into those institutions! Until you change the culture morally, spiritually, and educationally- NO PRESIDENT will ever have the ability to change these types of social issues! Did Ronald Reagan over turn Roe vs Wade? Of course not! Stop fighting frontal assault battles you can’t win and try out flanking maneuvers instead!

***RE: Church’s should not be requiredto marry gays.

Other questions:

1) Should Devout Bible believing Military Chaplains be forced to officiate gay marriages?

2) Should Christian businesses be forced to provide services to a gay wedding ceremony? ( Apparently, in the Obama administration, the answer is yes, or else you get fined hundreds of thousands and your business closes <-— see Sweet Melissa cakes ). What will a Trump administration do?***

Freedom should always be the outcome. People make choices everyday to live in sin. God gave free will. But, when it infringes on my freedom and my free will then that can’t be allowed. If two gay people want to marry, that’s their choice. If a liberal, anti-church wants to officiate that’s their choice. But if a true Christian church says no then that’s their right. If a business says no I don’t want to be involved in what you are doing then that’s their right.

All my life I’ve went into convenience stores with signs, “No shoes no shirt no service.” That’s their right because it is their store.

Trump needs to be on the side of freedom. Less government, more freedom, period.

The USSC is an Achilles heel in the Constitution. They could have declared that dogs had the same rights as cats and it would be “settled law.”

The answer to things like this in the current paradigm is either the court evolves and chips away at previous decisions (citing different rationales), or there is a constitutional amendment.

Even that will be a Herculean feat, so to speak, because the very reason this kind of thing was done was to try to force acclamation of “the lifestyle” in order to boost the self esteem of those carrying it out.

A mere sterile legal convention won’t satisfy if people are told that they may legally turn their backs on it practically.

The current cases haven’t gone up to that level yet.

Trump and Pence can hasten the reckoning by advocating the passage of specifically protective laws, which will then be challenged by lefties.

It is said “the Supreme Court follows the election returns.” They issued Obama-esque decisions while Obama was winning. Now that Trump has won, they will be more likely to issue Trump-esque decisions.

"I don’t know if Trump would have run if Gay Marriage didn’t pass. I think he knew if he came out for it, he wouldn’t be the nominee, but once it passed, it was off the table, so it didn’t matter anymore."

Salient point. And the GOP wanted it off the table as well for the same reason.

But it ends up not being compatible with a conservative, or even old-fashioned liberal, point of view. So instead of being stabbed, it is smothered.

In the meantime the best spiritual tack is to credibly illuminate such situations and show them the Lord who will lead willing people out of them.

These people are miserable, but they defend it to the death because they know no other comfort.

God is not caught flat footed by the secular errors of America or any other country, and can easily outflank the problem if we beseech His help.

The definitive answer to such a problem is spiritual. If nobody WANTS the “gay marriage” for whatever reason, then we won’t be plagued with it even though it remains possible in principle.

I don’t want abortion, either, but it’s been unsuccessfully challenged so often and been in place so long that it is considered ‘settled law’.

Despite that, there is a far more concerted effort to remove abortion than to remove same sex marriage. To be fair, same sex marriage has only been judicially imposed for about a year and a half now, so one wouldn’t expect that the opposition would gain their balance and begin a counter-offensive.

It’s one of those issues of sapping the demand.

Demand...I haven’t kept track, but I’ve not heard about a lot of same sex weddings happening all over the place. I admit that I could be outside the loop on that kind of thing.

Should Christian businesses be forced to provide services to a gay wedding ceremony?

The Christian owner of an ambulance service (to use just one example) should absolutely be required to provide services to homosexuals along with everyone else. The Christian owner of a bakery or photography studio,OTOH,shouldn't be required to do so.

I think this is where culture trumps politics. While I agree we are better off not being on the extreme side of gay beatings of the past, the Church has even gone a long way to “accommodation” with homosexuality. (they call it loving the sinner). I don't like it. But that is where we are at. Society has made its bed so they shouldn't be surprised what comes next - polygamy, bestiality, ect...
