Thanks for the info, Artful Dodger. In our case, our music teacher was an Evangelical and we are not. But what you say is true across the board. If a child learns how to learn in school, he'll have the patience to take music lessons (but may still require the parent to make them practice, lol).

Wonderful bumper sticker. I have lib friends who keep their kids in public school because “it’s important to support the public schools”, even though their kids’ educations will suffer. They put the state ahead of their children.

It would be great if churches would have a fund to subsidize members’ kids either in Christian school or in a homeschool program. We support missionaries on the mission fields, and the missionaries’ children usually are home schooled. Why not our own kids?

And my youngest daughter, who was a late bloomer, would have been labeled as *learning disabled* and stuck in remedial classes, etc, and labeled to her detriment. It would have killed her self-esteem and I surely believe it would have held her back.

And this girl, now 24, just passed her qualifying exams and is on a fast track to her PhD in a Physics related field.

Wonderful story!

Too late... I’m going to do it. You want one?

Well sure, if you're serious. I'd take one. Thanks!

I agree that something like this would be useful.

We should also keep in mind that the government school system, which does not need to compete for $$, drives up the cost of private schooling.

I’m going to order about 100, for myself and a homeschooling group I’m part of.

I’ll be glad to send you one. Address in private mail please...

No, but this Homeschooling family is armed to the teeth and prepared. Tyranny will have a bit of difficulty here, I think.

My question would be, “So?....Did the functional illiterates who graduate get the breadth of experience they needed?”

Homeschooling moms have a joke. If a child fails his school's state mandated standardized tests, should he be forced to homeschool?

Bingo! You deserve a prize!

Isn't a Christian's **most** important mission that of his **own** children?!!!

It's like that flight attendants say, “Put the oxygen mask on your own face first then help the person next to you.”

In the work of salvation its your own spirituality first, then your family, and then the world,

One more thing regarding churches:

1) How many ministers have spouses that work in the government schools? In my denomination, **plenty**!

2) In my community the government school district is the largest single employer with the largest payroll in the county. No other industry comes close! Add to that the vendors and their employees who service the schools. That is a **LOT** of people sitting in the pews who suck a living from the nation's K-12 socialist-entitlement schools. How many ministers are willing to bite the hand putting money in the collection plate?

John Gatto knows “what’s up” . Has anyone read “The Comprachicos”? That article on the effect of progressive education inspired me to change the direction of my life. It was like a ton of bricks fell on me. Thus, upon having kids I was prepared to fight daily the accursed effect of even Montessori school’s social propaganda. Educating a child is a daily job for 18-21 years requiring passion, conviction and knowledge.

My homeschooling daughter in law has referred to Gatto numerous times and thanks to your post, I have googled and begun reading his articles tonight. Good stuff. Thank you.

“1) How many ministers have spouses that work in the government schools?”

Yeah; I don’t get that. Actually, I don’t “get” that preachers’ wives have jobs outside of the house. My mom was a preacher’s wife for 60 years and she was available 24/7 to the members, just as my dad was. She managed the music program, social activities (dinners, etc.), took care of ill female members, and took care of five kids and Dad. Not kidding... he couldn’t have done it without her.

My aunt, also a preacher’s wife for 60 years, taught in public school. Her own kids don’t help her now (my sister and I help her), and members from past churches aren’t close to her.

Glad to have helped. Finding good, usually old textbooks, was the hardest part of setting up homeschool. I know there are ready made courses for homeschooling parents, but we didn’t use them. Your daughter in law must have more patience with her kids than me. Homeschooling is an art.

I was skeptical of homeschooling when I first heard about it. But the evidence has proven it successful. As for the socialization, many adults have to visit psychiatrists due to the effects of the school socialization.

Exactly. I've got an article I'm going to run next week on a liberal who confronted online who was brain damaged by public school. He was labeled with learning disabilities, yelled at by teachers who refused to help him, why? All because the school failed to teach him. So, they blamed him, labeled him and it destroyed his self esteem. To make matters worse, his parents were government worshiping leftists who also said it was his fault for not understanding what was taught.

Long story short, he dropped out, spent his whole life working as a janitor and was homeless 3 times in California. At 40, he quit because they said "THEY WORKED ME DOWN TO THE NUB!!" He ran off to SanFran, lived off welfare and SSI.

He's a liberal BTW. Flaming liberal. Thinks that he's learning disabled when in reality he was brain damaged by public schools, he thinks were to blame not the liberals.

A similar incident happened to a friend of mine. Raised by a woman who was a psychotic communist party member, abused by school, told he was learning disabled, reality is he's been emasulated mentally.

The good news, he's become a conservative libertarian. He works hard and opposes welfare and SSI even though he's been on it in the past.

The public school system in America has always had one purpose, to brainwash and condition our children to become illiterate peasants and urban laborers who will accept a police state, global tyranny and control and not resist while being further restrained by hedonism, medication, group think and double think. Not to mention angst rage and hatred towards capitalism, traditional values, religion and those who continue to support and practice those things.
