That’s why he’s depressed all the time. He KNOWS he’s a phony. It’s worse when you know it.
Somewhere in the swamps of Jersey....
That 330,000 isn’t a drop in the bucket next to the $ it took to get her to this point.
Otoh, $ alone gets a rider only so far. She’s got talent, also. Best to her in future competitions.
Jumping and dressage are different events.
The article says she competes in jumping. It doesn’t mention dressage.
Anoreth did dressage. It’s a different skill from jumping, although she also did some of that.
At the Grand Prix level it’s one or the other.
According to the article, Jessica and her steed are jumping. Best wishes to them, I hope they don’t get hurt.
Jessica rides and competes in “show jumping”....just as expensive as “dressage”, requires expensive, mostly imported European horses at a cost of 6-7 figures each horse.....but show jumping is MUCH more dangerous.
Typical working class hero.
Congratulations on your win, Jessica.
By all accounts, those who know her say that she is a very level headed, unaffected young woman who has worked and trained very hard to get where she is today.....it’s not an easy sport to excel in, but, as with most ventures, it helps if you have a “sugar daddy”, real or otherwise. Here’s an old horseman’s joke:
Horseman #1: How to I get a million dollars riding horses?
Horseman #2: Start out with two million dollars!!! LOL
That’s a good point. Equestrian sports are very expensive, and at certain levels you do need to have money to be competitive. But the people who win are world-class at what they do...and rich.
Beyond the beginner level, where a student can ride a horse owned by the stable or trainer, it’s a very expensive sport.
Second that. I once saw Ian Millar face the exact situation that crippled Christopher Reeve. Millar, being the pro he is, rolled out of a six foot plus fall, hopped to his feet and gave a thumbs up (to thunderous applause). This was back when he was riding Lonesome Dove.
But then you have Tim Stockdake, also an Olympian, who broke his neck (in a fall). (He mended nicely, thank God.) It’s a dangerous sport. Wishing Jessica all the best.
Stockdale
I agree ... which is not to say that I don’t think Bruce Springsteen is a total turkey. It’s just I hope is daughter rides safely, and I’m as happy about her success as much as any other rider’s.
Princess Anne Windsor was an equestrian star when I was a teenager!
I never saw her ride, but those Brits are just plain good. Lots of courage, plus an inbred love of horses—a winning combo.
I agree - British equestrians are top-notch, and they breed great horses, too.
Good for her.
But her father is still a dickweed who sings like a cat whose tail got caught in a PTO shaft.
