I mentioned in that vein “the big ball of light in the sky” to a co-worker ... he was dumbfounded, “What’s that? he said ...
It was global cooling until the Brits figured out that, if it was global warming, they would not have to pay the coal miners more money ... and the rest is history.
All of that would make a difference so small that the percentage would need several zeros after the decimal point.
Look to see a massive "Manhattan Project" in Trump's second term to prepare the US for this.
Al Gore is sad at hearing the news.
We must be about the same age. I did a paper in high school about global cooling and the Maunder cycle. In grade school I was taught that CO2 was a necessity for all forms of life and Carbon is a basic/needed element for life on earth. Amazing what Ursuline nuns taught in a 4 room Church basement in Kentucky, but I digress since we were farm kids.
The climate, through empirical evidence, had continually changed throughout the epochs of time. If one wants to find the driver of climate change (ice ages to warming periods) one should pay attention to what has shown its own changes which correlate to those of the earth’s climate, the sun.
I was in High School during the winter of 1976. That was the coldest damned winter I can remember. The Delaware River froze over completely for the first time since the 18th century. The surf at Sea Isle City NJ was completely frozen. We had two weeks where the temp never got above 0. That's when Time Magazine proclaimed we were in a new Ice Age...or entering one. Whatever.
Why do I mention that? 1976 is the winter that Joe Bastardi is saying this coming winter will resemble. I need to buy some extra blankets.
Actually, IIRC, the airborne sulphur particles, the result of burning coal, reflects sunlight back out into space. When we cleaned up the coal emissions, we got warmer. Got rid of acid rain, but....
not cool
The women in NYC are so lucky, they get to wear short skirts and tiny sundresses. I have to wear my business suit. But that's not stopping me from taking my lunchtime walk up 5th Avenue to Central Park where I can watch some of them.
Don't know what to make of this global cooling due to sunspots but it's happened before and is on the historical record. The "Year Without A Summer" in 1816 is pretty well documented. Exactly 200 years ago. But I think that was caused by volcano activity and not lack of sunspots.
Veneszuela?
Me too ! It was so damned cold they closed the schools down for a couple of weeks cause they couldn’t keep them heated enough !
Actually, it’s global cooling due to lack of sunspots.
Decreasesd sunspots are a sign of less solar magnetic activity.
Less solar magnetic activity means more cosmic rays hitting Earth.
More cosmic rays lead to more condensation of water molecules in the atmosphere, meaning more clouds (this is actually reproducible in a laboratory with appropriate apparatus, rather than unvalidated computer models).
More clouds mean more solar energy reflected back to space.
More solar energy reflected back to space means less hitting earth.
The remainder is left as an exercise to the student.
The Year Without A Summer was a combination of cooling caused by the eruption of Mt. Tambora superimposed on the Dalton Minimum.
WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP, GIVE ME A BREAK
bttt
Yes and they were ice skating on the Thames in Britain as it froze over. That’s also why it was so cold at Valley Forge.
What’s the load of crap?
